I surprise myself but i like the blue ice and orange lines...

i think teams changes jerseys and logos, marketing changes packages like Pepsi or whatever and people in sports in all leagues make changes to catch up with the times.
Hell, take a look at what Nascar is doing on TV these days.

I saw the pictures for the Rochester game and it looks way better then i expected, i look forward to seeing it in the NHL.

The only thing I don't like about it is that the orange lines match closely with the yellow border that goes around the bottom of the boards. Looks strange from afar.

But the color scheme is decent. I don't like it because of the colors alone, but on the idea that the change may improve the game both live and via television.

I don't mind the blue ice, but I don't really like the orange lines.

On another board someone asked, "Are D-men now going to be called 'orangeliners'?" Good question.

soo....what I want to know is...did the blue ice HELP? Was it easier to see the puck? Were you at the game? Or did you watch it on TV?

I'd like to know if they skated all over it and if it still worked visually. One thing you really notice in old hockey pics in books or whatever is how non-white ice really shows the snow. I hate the way they always sweep it away from the nets now and, if they do this, they'll be sweeping off the entire rink every TV timeout.

The NHL is just a big joke. You don't see MLB introducing pink lawns or the NFL with black fields or the NBA with glass floors.

Yeah, I wonder if there are any pics from after the game was over.

I think some people seem to miss the point.

Here are some more pictures from that ice.

I posted this in an another thread, but I was thinking about the colour of the boards. I think if the NHL insisted their advertisers to use white backgrounds on their board-ads, it would make the rink look more pleasing to the eye, and wouldn't detract attention away from the playing surface. It really does make a difference. I noticed that the NHL has done this at big events, such as the Allstar games, and World Cup, where all the background for ads were white.

I don't hate it as much as I thought I would. I thought it would cheapen the game, but I think I actually looks good, besides the orange lines, but that can be easily worked around. I would have to see a game on tv and one live with the blue ice before I could make my final judgement.

I agree with the consensus: blue ice is good, new lines are bad.

If one blue line is ok, what's wrong with two? Keep the lines...

indeed, overall ice colour isn't an issue, but they've got to do something about the colour scheme of those lines...surely they considered the 'blueliner' thing?

they could easily just switch the colours of the lines as they are, ie: centreline becomes orange, and orange lines revert back to blue....or perhaps a red or even crisp white centreline would work under the same proviso that the traditional bluelines be re-installed.

addendum: this has better not be a pre-cursor to the introduction of orange friggin pucks.

Well the obvious problem is that if you have blue on blue, there is little contrast. Thus, the linesmen would have a tougher time with calling offsides at the blue lines. At least with the orange, there is some contrast.

But I agree, the orange does look bad.

Why not just keep the blue lines a darker blue, and keep the red line red...along with the blue ice.

like he just said, the blue on blue doesnt look bad, it would just be harder to see for close offsides calls, as a ref, i can tell you the colors around that line matter, i need all the help i can get on the close ones. im sure thats why the blue line is at the red line, icing calls arent nearly as precise, and its just not that big a deal. im sure thats why they felt a bright color would be good for the blue line. that, and the fact that the blue and gold shades are the old buffalo colors.

If it makes the game show better on TV without affecting it's integrity (the awful glowing puck springs to mind instantly), I can live with the color changes.

IMO the only knock on Orange is that traditionalists scream "our game! nooo" Traditionalists also scream "Get out of florida" and even "Winnipeg!" and those scenarios are equally laughable. Everyone's attacking the Orange ice as if it were like the fox puck. Sorry guys, this won't make the game some cheap arcade trick like you think it will. Yes, orange in terms of neon just screams travesty, but on the Color wheel it fits right between two hockey colors like Red and Yellow.

Now as for my take on it... I was more baffled at the orange line. I would think they would outright scrap blue lines alltogether due to the similarities with the ice. However, I think that orange ice will just be a little test, and really we're just going to see red reintroduced and brightened.

Since the trade deadline wouldve been this past week, i totally understand why everyone's been uppity about the line. It's that time of year...

Would it be so hard to have a 1-inch white border on each side of the blueline? That'd make things easier.
