Feel bad for Howson Columbus is a big negative on his resume imo , The first thing he should of done is completely clear out the existing front office and bring in great hocky minds and scouts, he tried working with already failures in the organization and it bite him in the ass. Management is only as good as the employee's behind it.
I don't think Howson will get offered another GM job without going back down to being an assistant GM first and then possibly hired or promoted from there a few years down the line. He was good at contract negotiations for us, all the ones where it was mentioned he was doing the contract negotiations usually came out pretty reasonable.
I really doubt we will bring him back into the fold. MacTavish you always had an inkling he might be back especially considering how strong him and Lowe's relationship is.
It would be a massive waste of money, so I could see the oilers doing it.
Such a well run organization.
Did anyone see the Don Cherry interview on the Oilers home site where Cherry, almost annoyed, explains in two sentences what is wrong with our team and the interviewer laughs like. "ya, we know"
It kills me because I've heard we want to emulate the wings and hawks, but really our scorched earth policy of icing kids more resembles the islanders. Watch Columbus now and see how good management can rebuild quicker and more efficiently
Fun fact: Viktor Fasth is playing awesome with the Ducks right now. Wouldn't he need some kind of coaching to help him adapt to the NA game? I wonder who that coach could be?
The same guy who goalie-coached such NHL standouts as Jeff Deslauriers, Bryan Pitton, and Glenn Fisher, perhaps?
(I actually have no idea if Peeters was a good goalie coach or not, most campfire rumors seemed to lean towards not-good, but who really knows? I just know that I can't trust a dude whose first and last names are the same.)
So the guy that was our assistant GM when we were last overall for a couple years, then went to the Blue Jackets and finished last, and got fired. That guy? Yeah, could be a real asset.
Now that's just not true... the team didn't hit the bottom until after he was hired by Columbus... would lead some to think that maybe he was more important than you're giving him credit for... Maybe he's not a good GM, but there is evidence that he was a pretty solid assistant GM.
