He's from Sherwood Park

I know Gregor and Kassian are quite close, Matt's father used to sponsor his show, and I believe Matt also went to "Specs Deck". He's probably just trying to get the fans talking about what he would like see happen so Matt continue getting his NHL pay cheque

The difference between Reasoner and Boyle is the type of impact you want to make. Are you trying to address a need (size, toughness) or just trying to find a stop-gap who can win draws in Reasoner?
Big D-men in their prime years that have shown Top 4 ability in the past are generally seen as reclamation projects by at least a few GMs. Whitney should still have some value no matter how he's playing this season.

As for the type of impact, I like Boyle, and I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him in. But we do need immediate help on the draw as well. Imo, management has a responsibility to start showing confidence in the team by patching the team during injuries rather than letting them slide down the standings.

I'd prefer if we added a big top 9 winger, a FO specialist that can still do at least 4th line minutes, and a top 4/6 d-man. If we did all of that we'd probably make the playoffs.

In my admittedly limited surfing on the NYI board some there seem less than impressed with Streit this season. They may be more inclined to move him than you think.

Interesting, I still think that NYI would be better off keeping Streit than trading him for Whitney. If they moved him they could get better value than Whitney back.

I still see Streit as a UFA option for us.

I'd definitely claim Kassian, he's very tough and he knows his role.

Agreed, which is why Boyle is my suggestion. He kills 2 birds with one stone: centre, good on faceoffs, and brings that physicality we need. He's also signed past this year, which is a plus.

Reasoner is more of a "bare minimum" type guy. He does fill a need, but from what Isles fans say he's a shell of his former self.

Who cares if he can fight. He can't play apparently, so why do we need him? Because he's a better enforcer than Hordichuk?

So with Kassian the Oilers would get a size advantage in fights, but would still be left with someone warming the bench for 58:30 of a game...

Send Lander down when he returns, and chances are that we may not be 100% healthy up front at any point in this season.

End of the line for the goon era in Edmonton. I highly doubt they go that route again.

As we discussed in Insider Trading initial trade talk has Colorado requesting a roster player and top prospect for O'Reilly

The only problem I have with RoR is that he had one good year. How many players had a good year before their ELC was up then signed a big contract and never to reproduce. Can you imagen giving this kid 5mil a year and he ends up being another Horc. That is a lot to think about.

We're out. Our roster players are our top prospects. Not giving up any of RNH, Eberle, Hall, Yakupov or Schultz. Doubt they want Gagner as a 3rd line C, Hemsky is possible I guess.

Don't see us as a fit, especially being in the same Division.

That's probly fair value wise but I have a hard time giving up klefbom. Do we have any other top prospects? Maybe Marancin or lander plus another draft pick instead of klefbom in the package?

Kassian is a guy I've wanted for a while. He's a legit heavy weight who can skate. Plus he's from Edmonton. Please, claim him Steve. We might be jammed up front right now but this would be a great pickup and something we NEED.

It all depends on what is considered a top prospect. I'd have to think Klefbom would make the cut. Marincin and Musil would be of interest to most team too, I'd wager.

Either way, I'm sure there are lots of teams not in Colorado's division that would be willing to part with as much or more than Tambellini for O'Reilly's services.

That is exactly my argument.

I am very aware that his defensive prowess makes him all the more valuable and that he's been top 5 in the NHL in takeaways in all 3 NHL seasons. But how accurate is that statistic? How many of those takeaways came against our ****ty teams?

Could you imagine us giving up the aforementioned values, giving him 5m+ and then have him turn out to be half the player that we expected?
