The Kings can't buy a goal and he has played an average of around 30 minutes a game. Quick has been shakey/iffy this year (just look at HIS numbers) giving up horrendous goals that shouldn't go in and most NHL goalies should stop. We're missing Mitchell and Greene. Doughty has been strong this year, his numbers lie in this instance.
This should be a thread about Quick, not Doughty IMO.
The Kings as a team have a 0.8 5-5 G/GA ratio, Doughty has a 0.33 ratio. So while their recent play has a small part to do with his stats, there's something else going on here.
Only Carter and Richards have a lower PDO on the team (that's sv% + shooting% while that player is on the ice) so some of it can be attributed to bad luck. However, those two also have a higher Corsi and therefore a better +/-. The season is young enough that these advanced stats may place a greater emphasis on mistakes that aren't his, but they certainly aren't painting a very pretty picture of him.
However, he did start the season off pretty slowly last year too, and then turned Norris mode on in the playoffs, so Kings fans will just have to hope this skid doesn't make their playoff hill climb into a mountain climb.
For one, he isn't as great as his following always suggests. Two, the Kings aren't playing that well and as one of the key players he sometimes tries to do too much (as any skilled player would do). Often when a player tries to do too much they end up getting bit in the ass.
Doughty's been playing more minutes with Greene and Mitchell on the IR. Quick has also looked pretty shaky coming off his off-season surgery. The Kings are like this though, some times they look like a cellar-dweller team from the Pacific, other times they win the Stanley Cup. Their puck possession game has been fine. Once they regain their form they'll be beastly again. I doubt they'll repeat, but Drew hasn't been as bad as his stats sheet looks. Same with Scuderi. Tonight's a make or break game vs the Blues and Halak, and I would not be surprised if the Kings skate out with a win.
Quick currently has one of the worst save percentages of any starting goalie. Add to that Doughty has been taking all the difficult minutes with Mitchell and Greene out, it's not a surprise that Doughty's +/- is negative.
I remember when Karlsson was a -30 (third worst on his team) and the whole board used that to prove he was bad defensively. This was playing in front of the NHL's worst goaltender, Brian Elliott. But since it's Doughty this time, it's ok.
