Tyrell Goulbourne VS Joe Mahon: It's Not The Size Of The Dog In The Fight...

It's the size of the fight in the dog.

Kelowna Rockets' Tyrell Goulbourne (5'11, 195 pounds)

VS

Portland Winter Hawks' Joe Mahon (6'5, 210 pounds)

Not exactly good technique, meaning he left himself open to a serious dose, but the other taller guy was not doing anything to make the smaller guy think that dose was coming. The larger dude had little to nothing on those punches and so the little guy must have thought it was time to just move inside and pound away without any fear of being caught with something. Credit to the smaller guy there for just overwhelming the larger (in size) opponent and handling business.

It looked to me like Mahon was almost embarrassed to fight the smaller guy and didn't want to really go. But he got into it and while trying to sort of tie up Goulbourne without really wanting to hit him and ended up getting caught pretty good. The lesson here is if you are going to fight don't try to fight for a draw; you'll get clocked pretty good by the other guy.

Kind of like the first Rocky movie when Apollo's trainer tells him after the first round "this guy doesn't think it's a show, he thinks it's a fight".

He big guy tried to hold the smaller guy back but I think the smaller guy has a much stronger upper body and that made a difference. They're only 15lbs apart.

Why did the Big guy accept a challenge when his team was up by 3?

My point was that it had nothing to do with him not wanting to fight or anything. He got served a royal beatdown.
