Just making a point about how not lazy he's been playing...

I thought the same thing before he came to Carolina. He's actually really solid defensively. He's prone to mistakes (of course, the entire Canes team is atm), but he'll backcheck like no ones business to make up for it.

So all he has to do is sign enough 1 year deals with different teams. Reasonable enough.

I wonder if Ovechkin can convince Leonsis and McPhee to get him back no matter what the price is.

Is he turning into a Hossa 2.0, becoming a considerably better two-way player in the middle of his career?

Got back (on a PP, no less) to bust up a 2-on-1 shorthanded chance against Ottawa and played it textbook. I bet if he were a defenseman he'd be a pretty good one.

Either way, he seems like a completely different player than the one in Washington. Whether that's because of improvements to his game or simply because he's out of Washington, I don't know.

And frankly, as long as he keeps playing like this, I don't care.

I've been stressing how big of a myth that is forever. It's like one person said that and everyone just followed along. The guy isn't bad defensively and works hard. It's also because he's Russian.

Very true After his average play in the KHL (At times he was good other times non existent) he has looked great for the Canes. Just a couple degrees off his best form. Good on him for jumping off the sinking ship. That line with him and Staal is deadly

Of course we're defending him, he's the best player on the whole damn team. Why would we not?

Anybody who says Semin is anything less than a dynamic, complete, 2-way world-class player needs to get a clue because they're not watching the same guy the rest of us are.
So basically everyone is wrong and a select few are right. Seems logical

He is definitely worth the money on a one year deal and will be worth pretty close to it on a multi year deal. Don't think he is worth it? We will gladly keep him.

Yes to keep him motivated. Like I said, I would never give him more than one year deal

Don't think he will want to come back to the Capitals. They may as well wait for Tsar Kuznetsov if they want another Russian. Datsyuk has wanted a Russian at Detroit for a long time, could end up there

Him going back to the Caps would be like me going back to my exwife.

Glad to have him, he's worth the $7 mil on this one year deal and I wouldn't have any issues signing him to a 3-4 year deal at $5-6 mil.

Amazing playmaker, obviously has an elite wrister, and backchecks like no one's business. The only apprehension I've got is the feeling in the back of my mind that that backchecking urgency goes away as soon as he knows where his paycheck is coming from for the next couple of years. Granted, nothing I've seen of him in a Canes jersey suggests that, that all has to do with his reputation from the media, but I'm not ruling it out.

Worth the risk, sign him to an extension. One thing's for sure, he's an upgrade over Chad Larose on that top line.

Semin, the one-dimensional lazy Russian enigma

Just last week Semin saves a sure tap-in goal and Sportsnet's highlights went something along the lines of "Alexander Semin breaking up that play, not something you see much from him!"
I don't think it is fair to blame the Canadian media for that. I have read Caps' fans saying that. They should know.

Judge him after the season. If he plays hard right through, then the label sucks and he deserved every cent. No one questions his talent.

Semin succeeding outside of Washington.

Boudreau succeeding outside of Washington.

Washington playing like garbage.

I wonder what the problem was? Certainly not Alex "Mr. Scapegoat" Semin.
