Hi people, I just found out my wife can't make it to tonights game, I have 1 ticket available in the 329 section. I know there's a thread for this, but it's pretty short notice. If anyone wants it, PM me within 10 minutes please. We'll have to meet at the MTS Center.

Well, no takers, I'm off to the game, guess I can sit in 2 seats tonight! Every friend I could contact actually has tickets to the game already tonight.

Aw damn, didn't see it in time. I wouldn't have time to get out there now.
Man, I want to beat the Flyers bad in this one. I think we should be getting Pavelec back in the net if he's over his flu. Montoya is a backup, he'll fill in when necessary, but I don't see the need to give him a 2nd game in a row even despite the shutout against Ottawa.

Yeah but the point is Pavelec is not over his flu yet.

I highly disagree.
Backup to me is for the one that performs the least; #1 goes to the top performer... no questions asked. We say we don't want other players entitled to their positions and roster spots... why would goaltending be different?
So far,
Pavelec: 3 good (BOS, PIT, WSH), 1 ok (TOR) and 5 poor (TBL, OTT, FLO, MTL, FLAx2)
Montoya: 1 good (NYI) and 1 poor (OTT)
I see no reason to hand off any starts. It's not like Montoya doesn't have the exact same career SV% right now.
In the end, they can battle, and it's (hopefully) a win-win situation as they push each other.
<EDIT>
Plus this...
*shows respect for improvements
*creates incentives for solid play
*doesn't create entitlement
*creates a culture of winning

WFP indicated he was, but that Monty was getting the start anyway. If they want or need to give him more time, then that's obviously a smart call. I just want to see him back and playing well.

It is. Very few teams have a true tandem in net. For the most part there are starters and backups. Goaltending has always been regarded as handled different compared to forward lines and D pairings.

If that were true than backups wouldn't push for permanent spots which happens all the time...

I'd be all over that but I live in Selkirk unfortunately.

It happens, but it's certainly more than exception than the rule. It's not like Budaj is going to challenge for Price's job, or Chris Mason is going to steal starts from Pekka Rinne because of one or two good starts here and there. Granted, the Jets situation with Pavelec and whoever backs him up isn't exactly like that of Price or Rinne or any other top shelf starter in the league, but Winnipeg is paying Pavelec a lot of money to be 'their guy' and I don't believe for a second that Montoya has been brought in to do anything more than relieve him when he needs a rest, is sick or banged up, or to shake things up when he and the team aren't playing well.
