Edmonton - Nashville

Craig Smith, Jonathon Blum

Magnus Pääjärvi, ANA 2nd

OR

Colin Wilson, Jonathon Blum

Ales Hemsky & ANA 2nd

Edmonton gets much needed young 3rd line center + defensive depth, Nashville gets a scoring winger / young winger with offensive potential. Flame away.

Both deals push NSH back and are total overpayments on our side

Wilson isn't touchable unless its for a player a lot better than Hemsky

Smith and a 2nd for MPS looks about right, if you take Blum and the other 2nd out.

I dont know why Nashville does either. Paajarvi would be a good addition, but the loss of Smith negates it. Blum and the 2nd are about a wash, probably a little in Blum's favor since he has shown he can play in the NHL.

Wilson is probably an equally effective point producer in Nashville's system as Hemsky is, and Hemsky comes with a much larger pricetag.

Apparently this should be pretty close:

Craig Smith, Jonathon Blom
Ales Hemsky, EDM 4th

Smith has only one 30 point season under his belt, but Hemský is UFA 2014. Pretty fair deal IMO.

Preds still get hosed. they lose depth for a soon to be UFA.

deal doesn't make sense except to help the Oil.

Edmonton has too many NHL D on the roster, pass on Blum. MPS is starting to come around, Oilers are too high on him right now to trade him.

Hemsky's value rises each game he plays, not sure they need to add anything for this trade to happen. IMO the Oilers can do better, Oilers pass.

So you're saying that Nashville doesn't need a scoring winger?

Blum > Potter > Whitney. And Petry hasn't been that impressive.

Blum used to be tradebait, but he's playing well and will likely become a full-time starter this season (knocks on wood). Smith is a bit of the opposite; played well last season but is in a sophomore slump this season. The front office will not trade Wilson; playing amazing this year, is on a sweetheart two-year post-ELC contract signed in the offseason, and may very well become the first legitimate top 3 drafted and developed Predator forward.

The offers aren't terrible; I think Smith + 3rd for Paajarvi is the most realistic option, but a confluence of performance and timing factors mean any trade involving the NSH players named is unlikely.

I don't really see how MPS has more value than Smith at this point? Based on potential? Smith scored 12 goals in cruddy icetime last season before hitting the rookie wall, and while off to a slow start this season, he's looked better every game.

As for Colin Wilson...forget it. He and Hornqvist are our most untouchable forwards. We need someone to play with these guys, not replace them.

Hemsky is so underrated on this board. Well that's ok, we'll keep our "injury prone" "playmaker" who has 5 goals in 12 games

except for the fact he is tied with yakupov for the team lead in goals.

this is just common oiler fan proposals, do you have a C under 26 that is over 6'2? we will trade you hemsky and a 2nd for him

Perty is still better then Blum defensively any day of the week and the Oilers have a couple of prospect D coming up. The Oilers need MPS's size and speed more then they need another D like Blum.

He's a PPG player when healthy and is better than every player on your team not named Weber or Rinne

ok going to go right by the troll attempt...
i never said he was a bad player or anything i said we need snipers..
Ales Hemsky is a good playmaking winger.. but a sniper he is not... he has a good shot just doesn't use it.. he scored over 20 goals twice with a high of 23 then 20... and again we do not need play-makers. dont know why this set off the mine is better then yours thing for you but yah...

I'd argue that he and Erat are on about the same level. Hemsky has had a higher scoring season, Erat's been a bit more consistent. Both have had injury issues. Hemsky is a little better offensively, Erat is a little better defensively. They're paid comparably.

I do KNOW for fact that the Predators targeted Hemsky and Smid as a package last year as their first choice (before going with Kostitsyn and Gill), but the Oilers chose to keep and sign both.

Of course they did Smid is a lot better than Gill and Hemsky is a lot better than Kostitsyn.

The only point about Hemsky that HF GMs have to realize is that he is healthy now and sit down and watch the goals he got this year, sit down and watch a few games and you will see just how he is playing this year. You can tell that he is legit healthy and can help any team that needs a legit top RW with skill.

No for each case. I like the roster as is. The Predators season always starts like this, slow start, Trotz get's on his horse and pushes the team and makes corrections, Poile makes small tweeks to correct the stuff Trotz can't. Playoffs.

If this pattern continues then I would like to review deals.
