After what was surely a promising final season in the WHL, Tyler Bunz has been, for lack of a better word, a sieve in the ECHL. Just a sampling of his stats shows just that:
Games Played: 27 (decent sample size)
It's not his team though, he's splitting time with another rookie (albeit an 87' bday): Cody Reichard
Games Played: 27 (wow, even split)
GAA: 2.64 (not great, but good for 6th in his conference)
SV%: 0.911 (again, not great, but a big improvement over Bunz)
The kicker now though is that with Hovinen in Oklahoma City, Roy got sent back down to Stockton. Where does that leave Bunz? We can't have one of our only real goaltender prospects sitting in the press box in the ECHL every game. Does he go to the Central league now? I don't even think we have an affiliate at that level.
Whatever happens, it's been a bumpy road for Bunz, but I'm confident he'll break out of it eventually. It just sucks to see him struggle so much while a guy like Mrazek, taken in the same round, is already starting games in the NHL. But I guess that's the thing with goalies, you never know what you're getting.
