the thread wasn't for right now, its for if wash wants to sell and build for the future. and as far as the cobourn thing in the later post i was saying coburns prime, if he plays like he is currently is i would consider his prime to be the past, the flyers need an offensive defenseman that can put the puck in the net and run the powerplay and of course timmo is an exception just like selanne, chara, and jagr, i consider coburn an average nhl defenseman and i view the others as above average

If the Caps are intending to use Green to build for the future, why on Earth would they trade with the Flyers? Not exactly the deepest and most talented prospect pool.

Well, that's what it would take to get him. You don't think a 25+ min/game #1 defenseman is worth a #3 defenseman and second line forward?

He is fully healthy. And Ovechkin or Backstrom would take a whole lot more to acquire.

If I'm Homer and you called with that offer, I'd hang up. Giving up too much for Green IMO.

Green is a legitimate top pairing defenseman who can eat close to half a game, has been excellent defensively and seems to be rediscovering his offensive touch.

If Homer hangs up on that after going as far as he had for Weber then he has no clue what he's doing.

Doesn't come close for the caps FYI.

Carlson for
Couturier, 2nd (just for Carlson's good contract and more experience).

well...the caps arent going to trade either green or carlson. carlson is young and inconsistant and will become more consistant as he matures. just like green, who is just now figuring it all out.

if green gets hurt again, though and carlson is gone, where are they?

that said, my guess is that flyer fans see green as a 3-4 defenseman that is used only in offensive situations and would never give up a 1d price for him. they are trading on his rep and not his current game. if the caps took the offer flyer fans offered and he won a norris trophy the caps would look like fools.

of course, we know how flyer fans are. its more likely that green would turn the puck over a couple times and get boo'd out of town.

you are aware boston is already asking about carlson to help improve their defense?
and green would be a top pair defenseman because of his offensive game and endurance on the ice

Unfortunately, at the trade deadline it could be too late.

Since the Flyers need more size on the wings, Voracek should be available instead of Simmonds.

Injury woes of Mike Green are probably the deal-breaker.
Jake is bigger than Simmonds

In certain ways he does. At least a lot last year, he used his body more like a Jagr would for puck protection and did pretty awesome work along the boards. Simmonds uses it with his toughness to fight in front of the net.

I think both are crucial.

Agreed. And that saying a ton for this forum.
The Flyers and their fanbase want no part of lazy Mike Green.

Makes no sense for Washington. Giving up six years of Carlson for 2.5 of Briere, especially when they aren't going to make the playoffs this season.
