Does Ryan Whitney have a place in this league?

1. Ryan Rishaug ‏@TSNRyanRishaug
Whitney very frustrated and not feeling great about his future in Edmonton. Says he wont ask for a trade, but thinks its a possibility.

Whitney went on to say, We got outshot #$%^*& 40-14 and Im not playing. I think that shows where their thought on me is.

This guy is being outskated by COREY POTTER. Being scratched for 2 straight games now on the OILERS.

He has ZERO footspeed. Zero physicality in his own zone. Basic a pylon with a Departed accent.

Would anyone take a chance on him anymore, or are he and his ankles done in the league?

I guess we finally realize that his foot injuries are insurmountable in terms of recovery. He just can't play at an NHL level and that sucks because he used to be our best player.

I could see a team like Detroit buying low on him. They need defense and have a good reputation with players in the twilight of their career. Philly is another but I feel Whitney would get manhandled horribly by the opposition there.

Sadly even that is something of a stretch. I do not follow Edmonton enough to see Whitney on a regular basis though.

He's done unless there are some medical breakthroughs in regards to feet. Can still make a pass, but he can't move.

Good thing he's a UFA at the end of the year.

He should probably spend less time tweeting and trying to be funny, and work on his game. He doesn't look in shape at all.

Depends if there's a place that has room to put his purse.

He's probably in the best shape he can be in; there's just nothing they can do to fix his ankle/foot. It's something he'll have to play through and he clearly isn't able to do it yet.

Whitney on Krueger scratching both he and Smyth.. “I don’t think he cares who you are.”

Accountability for vets!

I have no idea if he is or not as I don't know him personally. I can only see how he plays(ed) and to me, his conditioning looks pretty bad.

But I'm sure his injuries have slow him down considerably though, as you pointed out.

As a Wings fan, I like this idea. We have the cap space and he's on an expiring contract. He could be worth the gamble, even if it's only as a 3rd pairing defenseman.

Whitney has been horrible, and he *****es about being sat. Screw him, he should be working at the drive through for Mcdonalds.... But then again, that may even be to fast paced for him.

His first pass is still great. As in, completely awesome.

Not sure what's meant by decline. Whitney was always slow, always soft, always a pylon in the defensive zone and never had an overpowering shot.

Damn. The Oil NEEDED a recovery from that guy. Perhaps forward for defenseman deal in the works then. Pittsburgh?

Before the season oilers fans were claiming his as a asset on the back end. How times have changed.

Pittsburgh doesn't want him back, if that's what you're saying. I can assure anyone of that.

There was hope he could bounce back from his foot issues. Before he hurt his foot he was playing like a legit top pairing d-man.

Hell no. I never want to see that worthless bum again.

He's saying the Oilers should trade a forward to Pittsburgh for a defenseman.

Dear God Ryan Whitney is embarassing. How do the Oilers always find ways to get the whiners for 'veteran' defense?

Ok, I was wondering and that does make more sense, and I don't venture that way too often, but I imagine that's a match people have been trying to set that up on the Trade Rumors board for a while now, as it makes sense. Whitney back to Pittsburgh didn't.

Ah...that makes much more sense

My instant reaction when I hear Ryan Whitney's name is to go into a murderous rage.
