Nashville - Colorado

Colorado:
Stastny
2 million of his salary being eaten.

for

Nashville:
Blum
1st

I've given up on Stastny even though I know he's got it in him to be better. Avs need D help and with those injuries will be rebuilding this season. Nashville needs a number 1 center and I feel Stastny will fit in the Nashville system well.

Great. So our 2nd line center is Mitchell? Great thinking OP.

That's what I originally wanted but I don't think Nashville would do it.

You are very short sighted, its only that way because of injuries. Besides, Mitchell has been outplaying Stastny.

Oh? Who do you propose becomes our 2nd line center?? Who is injured that steps in?

Josi is outplaying Weber by a lot. He's not going unless it's a huge overpayment (I'd include him for Duchene, not Stastny)

This season? Sgarbossa. The season is lost anyways, give Sgarby some playing time.

Who do you propose becomes our top pairing with EJ and Wilson injured?

I would probably do it, and I don't think you'd have to eat 2 million of salary.

Josi is untouchable. Blum is playing very well at the moment, more in line with when he was first called up two seasons ago than when he had a sophomore slump at the beginning of last year.

Sgarbossa? That does not seem the best of plans...

And top pairing? Certainly not Jonathan Blum. He has played 5 games, averaging 12 minutes a game. You think that is a solution to our defense? He has a ton of potential, but it would be a horrible idea to put him on our top pairing.

I think we might have to eat some to be above the cap minimum. : /

I'd add Gaustad if it helps C depth and cap floor issues, no problem.

We won't know unless we try. Sgarby has been playing well, lets see what he can do with some decent line mates.

He's a start. This proposal is for the future and he's a better option than whoever the hell we have left that's not injured. Where do you think we're going to get better D from? Siemens is too far away and Barrie and Elliot aren't enough.

We need someone to play with EJ (despite being injured) not someone for the 2nd pairing, which one of Barrie/Elliott project to fill out into.

It'd be Josi or no dice for me. And that's not because of his recent play, I've been interested in a Josi + Watson package for an Avs center long before this season.

There's no way Nashville does that with how well Josi has been playing. Look, Stastny has lost a lot of value, we're going to have to be realistic with our proposals for him even though we all know he's probably going to return to form once he's off our team.

So you intend to trade our 2nd line center, give Sgarbossa a chance, and pray it works out? Tell me, what happens in your plan if it does not work out. What if we lose Stastny, O'Reilly does not come back, and Sgarbossa does not work out. Who do we play as 2nd line center then? You're setting yourself up for disaster.

I don't think Blum will be the type of top pairing defensman we need for EJ. If we are trading Stastny for a future defensman, it better be someone we know can play with EJ in the future. I would want Josi in return from Nashville, he is the type of player we need. However, I would not expect Nashville to do that. If Blum is the best we could get, I would rather make sure we actually have a second line center, and wait for Barrie, Elliot, and Siemens to develop.

So we just move him for whatever package is available that has a halfway decent defender?

That's silly logic.

He's been pretty good this year and should easily have 3-4 more assists, if not more. His goal scoring has been career average, in fact he's always been a 20 goal scorer, even during his lean years of late.

This deal is not enough for me to move him, especially with O'Reilly hanging in the balance.

Yes, that's what i'm saying. If it doesn't work out draft Mackinnon. Also I believe O'Reilly will come back but i'm delusional. At the very least though we will get something back for him, and if part of that something is D then I don't see a need for this proposal.

Fair enough, i'm probably overrating Blum. It just kills me to see Stastny play like he is right now and our D-core needs help. Blum would be insurance in case one of our prospects doesn't pan out.

We are trading Stastny AND O'Reilly...and yet somehow we are not getting a legitimate top pairing defender in return?? No thanks.

I also feel like he'll walk in two seasons so it'd be nice to have something to show for him. Like I said, maybe i'm overrating Blum.

And we've been making that excuse for him for a while now. Eventually those assists have to start materializing.

Really, really bad.

And to the OP's offer. If the Avs are eating 2M then your actually get a pretty good valued Stastny at 4.6M, I would want more then Blum and a first for Stastny if were eating 2M.

No thanks, Legwand doesn't fit in with our plan and i'm not that high on Smith.
