Tim Connolly for Ryan Whitney.

Two underachievers with expiring contracts who need a change of scenery.

TC can replace Horcoff this season.

Though he's not really the type of C we need, I'd do it.

Don't need Connolly. Already a lot of forwards up front.

Is his issue a nagging foot injury that doesn't heal well/keeps getting injured or is it some thing genetic like the issue Forsberg had with an abnormal arch?

How exactly is that a bad puck mover the past few seasons? This is the year he's taken a huge drop. Even last year 20 points in 50 games is about 32 points in a full season. Not bad at all.
lol, interesting stats now that the season only lasts 48 games and we are a quarter through.

I'm an oiler fan.... If the Tambellini had half of the class of Holland, whitney would be allowed to walk off his contract even if the oilers are dead last at the trade deadline. I wish players in Edmonton got the same treatment as those of Detroit. That said, mentioning a trade after you get benched is kind of sad. These kids deserve better than that.

Tambellini purposefully tanks to get the #1 picks (or best the lottery will give) just like he is doing this year too. He has no class. You cant be LAST like this going on FOUR years in a row and get a RAISE .

But brian burke gets fired? What a pile of bull@#$%@#

i get a little chuckle seeing a thread starting with, 'Value of:' and seeing a player that has none.

he might fetch an AHLer.

Not easy being an oiler fan friend. they don't purposely tank and injuries were a huge contributing factor. Brian Burke was fired because after a few bad seasons, they didn't have Seguin or Hamilton. Tambellini's skills will be determined by whether or not Edmonton is the next Chicago-Pittsburgh or the next NYI-Columbus.

Question:

Does anyone have a center and a draft pick they can deal for Whitney? This is probably the ideal thing for Edmonton.

While we're at it, Smyth may not have a spot in Edmonton anymore either. Same for Petrell once Jones comes back

Sounds like Whitney is very pi**ed off at Oiler management. Not thinking he's going back there.

Edmonton has to move him or walk away with nothing. Doesn't give you much leverage in a trade.

List of potential destinations of Whitney:

1: Detroit
2: Washington
3: Colorado
4: Tampa Bay
5: back to Pittsburgh?

Don't forget his hometown Bruins, who I think would be #1 on his list, personally.

I really hope Shero has no intentions of bringing him back but I remember Shero saying a while ago that trading Whitney was the hardest move he's ever had to make as a GM. He really liked him as a player and a person. It's really sad to see his career where it's at right now. He was once a top 5 pick and looked so damn promising when he first broke into the league.

I wonder if the center and draft pick that has the same value as Whitney would even be worth trading him for, it would have to be a very late pick and an AHL center. I think they would be better off taking a 3rd if someone is offering it.

Smyth+Whitney for your 1-year salary dump (UFA at end of this season). Pick anyone, seriously.

I could honestly see the Canes going after him as a #7 DMan and a potential reclamation project. Have him play sheltered minutes while his foot heals. Seems like a JR type of move to me

Perhaps a move like this?

To Oilers:

Joe Corvo (expiring, $2M cap hit)
5th Round Pick 2013

To Canes:

Ryan Whitney (expiring, $4M cap hit)

Basically, we'll give you a 6th if you don't take Corvo's salary, but a 5th if you do
