He's a Detective from Mexico than dresses slovenly and plays dumb. He ultimately tricks the murderer into telling him how he did it by seeming clueless and out to lunch.

No, I'm pretty sure he's Christopher Columbus' younger brother who discovered Mexico.

Surprising move but I like it! Jackets showed some balls on this one. With Kekalainen and Davidson + 3 first round picks this year. If Los Angeles keeps on losing, Columbus could even have 2 top 10 picks but I think LA will pick up pace really soon.

Anyway, keep the heads up Columbus fans. Future looks bright for you!

This is an awesome move for the BJs, willing to take the 'risk' on an European. JK is extremely knowledgeable and good eye for talent and also plays on the ice. I'll root for BJ now!

Once they fire the coach the sweep will be complete and the Jackets will be on their way to respectability. Congrats guys! From one former on-ice circus to another

John Davidson's press conference:
http://video.bluejackets.nhl.com/vid...ed-share-video

Worth playing just to hear Davidson's silky smooth voice even if you aren't interested in what's expected of Jarmo.

Edit: You also get to hear Aaron Portzline call Jarmo "Jarkko" because he's... well... special.

With JD and Jarmo, Columbus takes maybe 2-3 years max before contending.

I hope JD and JK also have the leeway revamp the scouting staff. The first thing Lombardi was able to do was to replace the scouting staff. Before that the Kings seemed to get a good pick/interesting prospect once every 10 picks, meaning some drafts we would get nothing. Even in 2003 we had three first rounders and only Brown panned (the situation was similar to CBJs now). Now LA has so much home grown talent...

There's going to be some fine BJ's in the future, I'm sure.

At first I was all damn a Euro guy that's gonna avoid getting character guys but then I looked at him and realised he looked pretty badass. No guy that look like this can draft any Zherdev-types.

Jarkko is actually a diminutive of Jarmo. Although, I doubt Porty knows that.

Why let a GM with one foot out the door trade the best player in your franchise history and draft. Oh well water under the bridge. I hope this is the start of the right direction for BJs

They have a very nice building block in Ryan Murray. He's going to be very very good for them in the future. Looks like, they decided to stay away from Brian Burke. Good job, J.D. He knows his stuff.

Todd Richards is almost certainly a goner after the season...Jarmo Kekalainen is almost certainly going to bring in his own guy. But what Jarmo needs to do is draft well.

BTW, isn't he leaving the Jokerit GM post to take the Blue Jackets job?

Kekalainen deserved it. Best of luck to him. But not too much.. wouldn't want Columbus to get good.

He is. The man knows how to pick talent. Just as an example, TJ Oshie was a way off the board pick. If I remember correctly he was projected to be a 2/3 round guy. We ended up taking him late in the first. Jarmo is a good one. I was really sad to see him leave the Blues.

Jarmo is a good decision here to build from the draft, the guy has a nack for seeing talent where others don't. If the Blues didn't grab Armstrong I'm sure he would of stayed with the Blues. Good deal for the Jackets.

I don't really understand the big deal besides the symbolism of first European GM.

I'm sure he'll be alright, I doubt it will be a major turn-around from Howson.

Yeah but his contract with Jokerit has an out clause that allows for him to leave to pursue a GM position in the NHL.

As much as I like Armstrong I still wish the Blues would have given Jarmo the spot...Jarmo gonna be perfect for Jackets.
