Burke wanted to leave the West, he wanted to the NE (geographically,
to be closer to his other kids).

However; I did hear another former TML GM is in the running.
but I can neither confirm, not deny this

Well overdue. He's been an abysmal failure.

Burke, although he wouldn't admit it, surely must have learned from his mistakes and is humbled since the firing from the Leafs.

A humbled, more cautious Burke is a top flight GM capable of pulling off amazing deals, as witnessed by the several great moves he made while the Leafs GM.

They need a GM who's got a scouting background imo and can spot/evaluate/develop young talent as much as they need a GM to make a few trades that the team "wins."

Burke might win you some trades but he won't be the guy for a young developing team.

It all started with MLSE letting Burke go with weird timing. That throws of Columbus' timing, bc Burke is going to go there.

He would be starting from rock bottom. Imagine he turned it around.. They are due for a turn-around.

Rock bottom? JD's said repeatedly that Columbus is in a significantly better state than St. Louis was when he took over.

Process of elimination keeps directing me to Jarmo Kakalainen, but can't confirm it yet. #CBJ very close with somebody at this hour.

That's sort of conjecture. He's not going to say anything other than that

History will eventually vindicate Howson, hopefully as the guy who laid the foundation for the CBJ rise to the top. The other way in which someone is vindicated isn't an outcome I care to entertain.

Kakalainen is a good judge of talent, but isn't he comfortable with position back in Finland?

That really doesn't mean anything; the Jackets are still an awful, awful team that has been almost criminally mismanaged.

i'd be stoked for jarmo if he finally gets his shot. He's done his time in ottawa and st. louis and has now proven he can be the head guy in jokerit. It's time, and a franchise like columbus is the perfect proving ground for a scouting GM.

Kekalainen makes a ton of sense with Davidson in charge of the team.

...y'know what? I give up. Live in your deluded world in which Columbus doesn't matter and can't do anything right, because apparently reality simply isn't allowed to overcome perception around here.

I look forward to the day when the defense Howson's assembled starts winning games and folks attribute it to the new guy.

The current reality is whomever gets the job has a massive task ahead of him. It's hardly deluded to say Howson did a crummy job turning Columbus into a contender. His record shows that quite clearly.

The Nash vs Dubinsky/Anisimov/Erixon trade was a complete win-win deal, those exists.
