The odds are what the sportsbook is offering.

No one cares if Islanders start the season 10-0 let's say because they still suck.

Penguins will always be favorites no matter how many games they lose. But that's how you can always find good values in hockey.
Odds have nothing to do with being good or bad. Odds are based on money coming in on those teams. If odds were based on good or bad, you would see sportbooks fold like crazy.

Basically the odds mean not a damned thing unless you are betting

Wrong.

There's very few people betting on hockey, let alone hockey "futures"

Future Odds will change regardless if someone bets on Team A or B based on their performance but the change will be relative on who that team is.

Odds have nothing to do with being good or bad???
Why are "better" teams always favorite against the "bad" teams?

You should say, just cause a team is "favorite" does not mean they will always win. Which is true. At least in the NHL.

So if you thought it was going to be a Flyers/Oilers Stanley Cup, now is the time to bet....

btw, MANY sportsbooks have folded already and many more will in the future. Online.
Vegas books barely make any profit on sports, all the profit is from the rest of the games in the casino.

Right, and what's their record vs. non-divisional opponents over the last couple years?

Hard to say for the east. I want to say the rangers, but their system is garbage in the playoffs. I could also say the pens, but how will fleury play this time around? The bruins dont have Thomas to steal the show. Its hard for the devils to make the finals 2 straight years.

I'm just going to pick the senators for the hell of it. Anderson's play could take them to the finals.

For the west, I cant decide between the Hawks or Nucks.

you cant really blame the Canucks for being in a relatively weak division that's plagued with injuries

I am not convinced the Pens are good enough throughout to really make a challenge.

From what I have seen so far...

Hawks/Devils.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Vancouver Canucks.

Vancouver's about to win the Cup when Burke comes in wearing a Bane mask and shuts the whole thing down. Luongo reveals himself to be Batman, and Kadri is Robin (I mean, John Blake). Together they take down Burke. The teams are merged, becoming the Vanonto Maple Nucks and co-win the Cup against the mighty Burke.

I picked Chicago and pens before the season started. Gonna stick with that.

I just hope the ducks play the redwings or sharks in the playoffs.

I think that's offset by the fact they aren't padding their wins playing Eastern Conference teams this season.
