Here's a scary line for a job advert:

At least they're honest when they say that you will be severely micromanaged. I wish I had known that before accepting my current job.

Nope, never had my name or anything jersey foul like that on my jersey. Still not too sure on who to put on the back of my jersey though.

NERD ALERT

Been using various linux distros at work since I started at the new job. Tried Xubuntu for a while, been it was very buggy.

Tried Linux Mint 14, but also very buggy.

Just installed Ubuntu 12.10 and installed Cinnamon (a fork of GNOME3 made by the Linux Mint guys) and it's actually pretty awesome. Cinnamon seems like what something like Gnome SHOULD be. A lot more polish. Hope it keeps improving and gains traction, Gnome, KDE, Xfce are all outdated/******.

How difficult is it to install Linux to a partition? I'd like to doodle around with it in my spare time. Does it require a different data format than Windows 7?

If you already an already available partition (as opposed to having only 1, with windows on it), it is actually pretty easy. Ubuntu or Linux Mint will step you through it.

Just download either onto a usb thumb drive or cd (you can order either with ubuntu preburned), and reboot.

Use Ubuntu if you do want to try Linux.

Linux Mint is based off of Ubuntu and uses the same installer, so you're good going with either.

Wow, I didn't know that something like that existed.
I stopped caring after they ruined GNOME with the changes made in 3 and refuse to use KDE/Xfce because I've always disliked them.

If the installer doesn't help you with it, it's pretty easy in Windows.
Just search "Disk Management" in the Start Menu, right click your main drive (likely C) and choose "Shrink Volume", and enter the amount of MB you want to shrink it by.
The free space should then be recognized by the partitioning tool.

Just be careful when installing a bootloader like GRUB, as it can end up being annoying or messy.
If it ends up becoming a problem, I recommend EasyBCD.

If you just want to putz around, Knoppix on a USB stick is a nice alternative. Doing it on USB lets you make your writes and save changes, but doesn't run the risk of blowing your HDD up if you don't know what you're doing.

If you've got a spare machine to hammer on, I'm a fan of Ubuntu, since it's derived from Debian, and I've worked in a Debian shop for years. (Although I'm moving to a RHEL one...)

I've been using Linux Mint 14 for awhile and haven't found it buggy. I guess it depends on your hardware (as with all things Linux). I currently use KDE and really like it, but I also tried Cinnamon for awhile and liked that too. I never cared much for Ubuntu's new default desktop setup (Unity).

I do have a rotation set up for the next few weeks of unas chicas mas lindas to wait on me hand and foot while I'm hobbled. The only issue I've had the last day + is that my current nurse has an unseemly Brantley Gilbert fetish, I've heard his album at least 3 times today while juiced up on painkillers in the bedroom. I don't think I can Kick it in the Sticks anymore.

So like, anywhere I can get a Buffalo Sabres visor? I have one for all of my teams except this one. A Bing search turns up nothing.

I had a very frank conversation at work yesterday with a woman a few years from retirement. Essentially, it boiled down to that I should get the hell out of the company as soon as I possibly can.
