a few stinkers for #1 overall picks over the years.
as an oiler fan it makes me feel a bit better not getting a crosby type talent.
at least the oilers picks should end up better than someone like stefan

I'm gonna pull my hair out if Modano loses to Kovalchuk. Modano belongs ahead of Ovechkin and Sundin for how much better he made his team both offensively, but especially defensively. And there's an argument to be made for his value vis-a-vis longevity over Lindros, and an argument could be made over Hawerchuk too (given that Hawerchuk put up the bulk of his points in his early and mid 20s when the league was a shooting gallery...and he was nowhere near as valuable as Modano was defensively.

Modano. Easily.

This is one hilarious joke. Modano should've been chosen much sooner. Way the hell sooner. That was a damn good team for a helluva long time and he was their star player. Without him they would've been a below average team. They won cups.

What the hell has Thorton or Sundin won? Seriously?

Modano is a sure fire first ballot hall of famer, Kovalchuk is well on his way to the hall of fame but his body of work isn't there yet.

Picking Sundin was hilarious. He's not that great of a player.

It's almost as much of a joke as him being a 1st ballot HOF. The team you play for shouldn't dictate how your career stacks up against other players.

John Tavares.

You ask me which player I think is the best, I say John Tavares. You say Kovalchuk? I can understand that you have different standards. You say Modano? I understand you prefer higher achievement to higher potential/talent.

Pretty close between Kovalchuk and Modano, but I ended up voting Kovalchuk.
