Stan Bowman. Was my pick even before Howson was removed.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Greg Sherman/Pierre Lacroix or whoever the hell is pulling the strings in Denver. Any GM who decides to put his pride before making the team better is an awful GM in my mind and should be banished from the league, just like these two should be

Tried to transform his players into becoming the Devils of the 90's for god sakes..and failed miserably. Now Ovechkin, Backstron and Green look like they forgot how to play hockey because of how dysfunctional that teams is.

Schultz doesn"t count though because he just showed up this summer at Tambellini's doorstep with a signed ELC.

Joe Nieuwendyk. The James Neal trade should have gotten him fired alone.

Tambellini is no star, but the worse thing he could do at this point is pull a Paul Holmgren (the answer to the original question).

Tambellini signed Barker for $2.25 million to play in the Oilers' top 4 and take pressure off of Ryan Whitney et al.

Mike Gillis signed him for $700k to be an 8th defenseman and not play unless at least two guys on the roster got hurt.

Slight difference there.

Tambellini by far

Can't respect any GM who ices a 30th, 30th and 29th place team in the last three years, while rocking a smile. Besides drafting 1st overall, he hasn't done much of anything that deserves praise. Getting Schultz was a good move, but the fact that the Oilers needed Gretzky and Coffey to beg him to come to Edmonton, shows how desperate the Oilers are for defensive talent.

Don Maloney. Can't even spend to the cap, relying on lesser players that no one else wants.

you have to thank Howson for that Carter trade to LA. Holmgren is a tad iffy too, but they have made playoffs each year I believe, and yet picked top-10 every year. And made cup finals once as well.

Answer to the OP's question is Tankellini.

some real good candidates, but its the same suspects as everyone has mentioned...Howson before he was fired, Nieuwendyk, Tambellini, but that Calgary management team...

how can they go on like this? Its really ugly there. At least Edmonton has a future once Tambellini is fired.

Oilers fans have assembled the front line is here. 30th, 29th, 30th, 25-30 this year but their in the rebuild of no timeline. When/if they win the rebuild is over. Tambo is the worst gm

Yes, Burke's constant frown of truculence solved the Leafs' playoff woes.

So you are criticizing a GM who "hasn't done much of anything that deserves praise" for using every asset at his disposal (the Oilers' dynasty legacy) to land a marquee free-agent in an area the team definitely needed help. I can't really respect your logic (or lack thereof).

Take away his phones, email, and fax machine on July 1st and Sather's damn solid. He's made some real boneheaded signings because he has money to spend, but he's also built a depleted system up to the point that they should be a consistent playoff team.

Not a fan of the way Tambellini has gone about things in Edmonton even with an internal edict to rebuild, but that doesn't necessarily make him the worst. If he can't crack the playoffs one of these next two seasons it does though.

Hard to go against Snow even if it's Wang that's pulling all the strings. Would love to see him in an org that would actually give him a fair chance to build a team before saying for sure.
