[PIT/WPG] Eric Tangradi for a 7th round pick in 2013
I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Tangradi turns things around as a 27 year-old and has a solid career.
The problem is that he's nowhere near a NHL caliber player today.
Best of luck in Winnipeg.

Not that I'm trying to take a cheapshot at pens fans but man did you guys and gals overrate the hell out of Tangradi. Only a 7th rounder? Man what low value.
Not every Pens overrated him but the guy never had a real shot here. Pens are terrible with developing forward prospects. Hopefully he proves alot of people wrong. Best of luck Tangradi
I think you mean where the Ice Caps slot him in at.
He'd have to clear waivers to be sent to the AHL. He won't clear waivers. His ceiling is too high and he just turned 24 this month.
If he could have made it to the AHL then the Penguins would much rather have had him playing in WBS and hope that he works through things rather than just toss him aside for a 7th rounder.
I watched Tangradi ever since he played in the OHL. He's always been more of a playmaker than a power forward. He was just more physically developed than others during his time in the OHL.
The surprising part is that his playmaking translated from juniors to the AHL, but not so much to the NHL. You can blame that on a lot of things. The Penguins trying to develop him into a pure power forward/net front presence which I still don't think is his game.
It also may be due to questionable hockey IQ and never really getting an extended look in the Pens top-6
Winnipeg has some big playmaking players so maybe he'll learn there and become effective.
You mean the same team that is desperately looking for an effective "3rd wheel" on a line with either Malkin/Neal or Crosby/Kunitz? The same team that just took a shot on a guy they picked up on waivers who couldn't crack a think Canes line-up over the last couple of years?
PITT would have LOVED for Tangredi to develop, but he just didn't. To say he hasn't a chance over the last couple of years is just ludicrious. He's had a ton of opportunity, but he never showed he was capable of stepping up and being a positive contributor.
I said a chance to play regularly and he really hasn't had a ton of opportunity with the Pens. He got a brief look for a couple games with Malkin and Neal but that was it. He played much better when dropped lower in the lineup. I think he's got 3rd line upside.

I'm not ripping on either Canes or Pens. Sometime (often times) prospects just can't adapt to the speed and size of the NHL. There's no shame in that, but I just don't agree with the thought that he didn't get a chance in PITT.
Never showed he could think the game fast enough even to be trusted in a bottom 6 role. You could sort of see him working it out on the ice and it wasn't pretty to watch. "Puck was dumped in the corner...what am I supposed to do again...oh my job's...no that's not it...oh yeah, I go pressure the guy retrieving the puck."
Slow brain + slow acceleration = death. The guy might have been okay in the clutch and grab era, but he'll never read and react fast enough to cement a job in the modern one.

If all PITT could get for him was a 7th, why would you think he wouldn't clear waivers? If a team was AT ALL confident in ET's ability to contribute at the NHL level, IMO he would have given a hell of a lot more than a 7th rounder in a trade.
That's all it took? Wish the Hawks would've jumped on that. Chevy is doing a hell of a job in Winnipeg so far.
The Hawks are already going to be 14 forward deep on the NHL roster when Carcillo gets back - where do you think they would play Tangredi? I wouldn't supplant any of the current top 12 guys to get ET icetime.
Pens surely ****ed up with him for sure. May never be an all-star but I'll bet he becomes a solid player for the Jets. Giving up just a 7th is definitely worth it.

Tangradi looked good every odd shift he got with crosby, but stubborn as bylsma is he refused to but him on crosby wing instead of Malkin who he had zero chemistry with. And after every little mistake he got the usual Bylsma treatment of young talented player aka benched after every little misstake.
Tangradi should become a good nhler if they let him plays his game and not force him to be a powerforward and give him constant linemates and time.
Can't really say its surprising that he was moved. But for a 7th? Funny to think they got a 5th for Lovejoy and it was thought Tangradi had more value than Lovejoy. Seems as though the Pens just wanted to rid themselves of him and the constant question on whether he was going to be a winger for Sid or Geno. He was given plenty of time to develop and just never really took that next step. Boychuck hasn't got a point yet, but he has brought more to the table than Tangradi did on the first line.
