The Pittsburgh Umberger

Copabanana to unveil burger named after Phantoms rookie R.J. Umberger

Popular South Street restaurant Copabanana (4th and South) will be debuting its newest menu item on Monday at noon called the Pittsburgh Umberger, named after Phantom R.J. Umberger. The rookie center who grew up in Pittsburgh will be on hand to help cook and then be the first person to sample the new burger, which features fried onion rings and muenster cheese.

A 2001 first-round NHL Draft pick of the Vancouver Canucks, Umberger starred at Ohio State University before signing as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers organization last summer. The 22-year-old currently leads the Phantoms and ranks fifth among all AHL rookies in scoring with 45 points.

Located on South Street since 1978, Copabanana was selected as Philadelphia’s Best Burger by AOL and is a member of City Paper’s Burger Hall of Fame. Also specializing in Spanish fries, margaritas and barbecue and Tex-Mex platters, Copabanana also has locations at 40th & Spruce and 1619 Grant Ave.

When you try to pay for the burger the cashier will keep asking for more money until you are so starved you give in.

Why not just call it the Umburger? I don't understand the need to add in "Pittsburgh." I bet it's better than a Roethlisburger though.

No, they're patiently waiting until a new CBA is reached so they can sign Carter and Richards.

Yes, it seems you don't care about him at all.

Kind of odd to have a sandwich with the name Pittsburgh in it in Philadelphia...

Now the Phantoms website is calling it the 'Phantom Umberger'. Makes more sense than 'Pittsburgh Umberger'.

Pittsburgh is a way to cook beef, If you ask for a Steak Pittsburgh, it Will be seared to a dark crust and be rare inside. This might be why it was called pittsburgh

Maybe it's of the "Philly Cheesesteak" phenomenon. I've told all my out-of-town aquaintences - if you ever see something advertised as a "Philly Cheesesteak" it's not a real cheesesteak. Peppers and mushrooms are extras not standards. Swiss cheese is blasphemy. Toasted sliced bread is just an outrage.
