David Steckel to Canucks

Immediately replaces Manny Malhotra as a face off specialist.

What can Canucks offer for Steckel?

Please refrain from mentioning Luongo in this thread. Thx.

As much as it pains me to decline this, that bum Kesler's NTC is now in effect, stopping us from trading him to the lowest bidder.

Our sincere apologies.

No interest in Steckel except maybe at the deadline for a 6th round pick or lower. Personally I'm happy with a C depth of Henrik-Kesler-Schroeder-Lapierre going forward.

If Gillis wants to win it all, he won't trade for Steckel.

As a Canucks fan....no thanks. Canucks still are 4 deep, and once Kesler is back, Steckel would be the 5th best center on the team.

Don't think the Canucks would pay much of a premium for a centre at this point. Kesler about to come back, Schroeder has acclimated nicely (faceoffs will come) and Burrows wasn't bad at C and could go there again in a pinch. As it is the Canucks are going to have a minutes crunch with forwards when Booth comes back.

Maybe something that would make sense at the deadline. But it'd likely be similar to the 4th round pick the Leafs got him for.

A 10 pack of timbits and a small double with a shot of hazelnut. Final offer. Or a 7th rounder.

We don't want a faceoff specialist. We want a guy who's good at faceoffs that can actually take a regular shift and contribute elsewhere on the ice. I don't see Steckel a that player.

You need to be realistic. Unless you want to trade more valuable assets for a different player with what you're looking for.

I think most fans in this thread have been saying that Steckel wouldn't be a player for the Canucks to pursue regardless of price. IMO Steckl + a 4th for future considerations wouldn't improve the Canucks.

That's fine and you're entitled to that opinion. I just only replied to Regin Nateo who seems to be a Canucks fan.

What I wrote in response to StringerBell is that he's looking for a faceoff specialist that can probably score, kill penalties, and forecheck well replacing Maholtra. I'm not sure Canucks are in a position to give up valuable assets for that kind of player (which I agree isn't David Steckel but he comes cheap and thus a possible more reasonable pickup).

I don't mind Steckel, he played well for the Caps during the playoffs, he just isn't necessary since Schroeder is playing so well. Schroeder is young and still has plenty of time to develop his face-off abilities. He won't be equal to Steckel at the dot but he will bring a skill-set to the game superior to what Steckel has to offer.

I made a proposal yesterday to get Derek McKenzie for a 3rd which was agreed to by multiple Columbus fans. Would much rather do that than take Steckel for a 5th.

The Canucks already have a player like this, so I'm not sure why he said we were looking for one. Max Lapierre does all those things and will slide into the fourth line spot as soon as Kesler is back, probably tonight.

If you want to give up a 3rd for a possibly concussed player in McKenzie who's smallish, that's fine. Don't get me wrong, McKenzie is a fine serviceable 4th liner.

Why give up assets for McKenzie when we have Schroeder? If it's depth you are looking for, we have Ebbett for league minimum.

Done. Personally I think the Canucks have to add to make this fair - would a 1st and Tanev be ok with you?
