Antropov, Wellwood, and Ponikarovsky: your comments

Andropov -1
Wellwood E
Poni E

All of them were playing (supposedly) last night. All kept off the scoreboard. I'm happy to say that we don't miss them at all.

Can you see any of them fitting in with any of our lines anymore? Antropov is the same old player: pretty good hands, doesn't use his size, and can't score timely goals. Poni is the same accept not as good a playmaker. Wellwood is a very average NHL center.

Here we are and there they were.

I'm glad that Poni wasn't his usual Leaf-killer self

If I had to take anyone back it'd be Antropov, but yeah I really don't miss seeing our magnificent top line of:
Poni- Stajan - Blake
Jesus Christ

I'd still take Antropov, not the other two though.

Wellwood looked faster than I remembered him. Other than that, they were all invisible.

I think it was a mistake to give up on Antropov. Not so sure he can still play but this Leafs team could have used him a few years ago. Guy was never appreciated in this town, though.

Last night I was reading some of the Preggers PGT and they were griping about all their forwards.

Jesus Christ would instantly make our top line bro.

Also, i've always had a soft spot for Wellwood, and Stajan hasn't been doing horribe in Calgary this year

Why would a goalie play on the top line?

I think injuries mixed with laziness is what ruined Kyle Wellwood.

I remember when we all thought he was our next 1st liner when he was a PPG in 06-07...Then he hurt his groin over and over and finished with 42 points in 48 games. Then broke his foot in 07-08, the picture of him really fat reading a paper surfaced, and he's been garbage ever since.

EDIT: I thought he was reading a paper, but here it is:

Remember when Mess wanted to move Mats Sundin to RW to make room for Wellwood as the #1 centre? Lol

Crazy how we use the same formula, big LW, 2 way center and sniping RW

I felt like it was mostly Ian White for Dion Phaneuf in that trade

I always liked Wellwood...the other two though, meh.

Never understood the man-crush so many fans had with Antropov. Yes, he is huge and skilled but he never had the drive to convert his natural talent to become the player he should have been. I consider him a tease. He is the kind of guy who comes to play for a couple of games, makes you drool over his talent and then packs it in for a bit before deciding to turn it on again. His supporters take his good games and say "See, I told you" and conveniently forget his less than interested efforts on other nights.

i remember when all 3 of these guys, plus stajan, were loved and hyped endlessly on this board.

it was argued, with statistical evidence, that wellwood was as good or better than spezza.

it was argued that stajan was as good or better than patrice bergeron.

none of these guys are particularly bad nhl players. they can be useful in the right situation. they're a dime a dozen.

And most will never understand why you would have always liked Wellwood.
