Hockey Central was saying he's out until playoffs.

Remember that everyone was in panic mode a month ago and expecting the Sens to tank, especially after EK's injury, so Sens management was hoping Michaleks injury would get better soon on its own because they couldn't afford to lose another 1st liner at the time. Obviously that didnt happen, yet the Sens are still comfortably in a playoff spot at the moment so they likely decided they can afford another month without Michalek.

Twupdate: @NHL_Sens

MacLean informed the media that Milan Michalek had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to clean up debris and will be out indefinitely.

Jesus, Mary and glavin' - hopefully he'll be back for the playoffs!

nhl.com says the timetable is about a month.

i would expect he's done for the season, questionable for first round.

Its pretty minor surgery and he has a lot of experience in recovery now so I'd expect him to return for the playoffs. Now the big question is what's up with Spezza. I've heard rumblings...

He definitely underwent some tests last week right when the Lavoie rumours popped up. Its just unclear how big the concern was. Since we haven't heard anything since, I'd guess that everything went okay but then again its similar to this Michalek situation where they just stayed on the fence too long.

I can't believe they delayed this so long. He'd be back now.

If he had have done the surgery when I first posted this he would be back now. Michalek wanted it done mid-february, but the team wanted him to try rehab first and exhaust all other options. Turns out nothing improved over the last month.

Put me in "we can't rely on him" camp

If he's going to be on our first line we need him to play, especially in the playoffs

He has a poor record when it comes to knee injuries and the playoffs

Sorry Milan, I love your attitude but you aren't there when we need you and history shows that you don't perform at crunch time

You aren't going anywhere but I'd have some serious reservations about giving him a big contract going forward

Absolutely honest. If Murray could deal him at the draft, I hope he does.

Good. Go for the surgery, take the rest of the season off and actually get better.

I think most people have been consistent

There's a group of people who think he's great because he's a goal scoring winger

There's another group that thinks he's a liability because he's always hurt, not that he sucks

Honestly, I'm very worried about Michalek AND Spezza over the next few years. As I have been the last few years. This isn't bandwagon or jumping on the pile or anything like that - people are just concerned about building the team around players who have ongoing health concerns. It's a legit concern.

I understand why the Sens and maybe 9MM delayed it... but I also wish they hadn't. AT that time I was of the mind that if they tanked, they tanked. With the day to day stuff they were without him anyway. In the end they probably made the wrong call. Oh well. They've been right a heck of a lot more often. Sure hope we can get these guys all playing together one of these years.

I'm not too worried about Spezza

He misses games everyone now and then but he's money in the playoffs

I don't remember him missing a long time due to back issues. Whenever he's been out for a prolonged period of time it was because of something else.

I see him lining up as a second line winger when this team (if ever) competes for the cup. Until then, I ll view him as second liner being asked to produce like a 1st. Unless we have a long jam in the top 6, I dont see the point in letting him go especially when his value is low.

I'm not too worried about the knee issues.

MM9 Career stats (excluding this year and his first year 2 gp):

7 seasons
GP 524 (avg 75 GP season) yep real injury prone is this guy.

G 165 (avg 24 goal per year)

A 175 (avg 25 assists per year)

Someone explain what is the problem they have with Michalek again?

Um, he missed three whole seasons because of his knee injuries? People are worried his knees will cause him to miss more time or impact the level of his play? Your stats are awesome, except they ignore the entire seasons he's missed with knee injuries...

He played two games, then blew out his knee and missed the season. You have to count that. 2003.

Missed the entire 2004-05 season (lockout) due to knee injury. Just got 'lucky' it was a lockout year.

And then this year.

That's three full seasons. I don't understand your point in excluding this year and his rookie year. Why don't they count?

And I wouldn't characterize it as a 'problem' with the guy. Personally, I'm concerned. I worry about his knees. I worry about Spezza's back. I hope they're healthy - but I'm concerned they won't be. Do I think management should dump them? No. Never said that - I'm just worried and cross my fingers and hope for the best. Is it wise to rely on guys with injury problems? Hell if I know. Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. There's no guarantees.

But Michalek is a 50 pt scorer? These days it seems so hard to score five on five in the NHL & most guys that get 50 pts or more are getting significant PP time. That could be a problem in Ottawa with a number of players next season who will push for more PP time. Silfverberg, Zibanejad, Spezza, Michalek, Turris, Alfredsson & whoever they put in front of the net will all want PP time. On defence it will be Karlsson & whoever is playing well enough offensively to warrant playing with him on the PP. While a couple of those guys may not warrant PP time now they will be better next season & IMO start pushing for it.
