Silfverberg, Zibanejad, Spezza, Michalek, Turris, Alfredsson & whoever they put in front of the net will all want PP time. On defence it will be Karlsson & whoever is playing well enough offensively to warrant playing with him on the PP. While a couple of those guys may not warrant PP time now they will be better next season & IMO start pushing for it.
Yeah he's fine as a hockey player in the regular season, 30 goals is nothing to sneeze at

Except that he vanishes in the playoffs (or is injured)

He's one of our first line wingers and until that changes (or he finds the extra gear needed for playoff hockey) I think we could do better

We aren't going to get fair value back for 9MM, so dealing him would be pointless. His playoff stats are irrelevant when:

a) He's not hindering our cap
b) We have nobody to replace him, at least not 4 of them

For a team so desperate for scoring wingers, it's amusing how little people value 9MM sometimes. We should be adding on top of him, not replacing him.

I'd like to go on record that I'm not advocating trading him

But maybe getting a guy like Read could allow us to put Zib or Silf on the first line and then put Michalek on the second. We need scoring wingers and we need one that is better/more reliable than Michalek.

Just wanted to point out that your team is amazing.
I always wonder how many points you would have if not for all those injuries. It's ridicilous you keep winning all these games with that many injuries to core players. Kudos!
I just compared it to the Bruins ... we are pretty much done if we lose a top 6 guy, but you guys keep rolling. Everyone talked about Alfredsson getting traded etc. (including myself I have to admit) but geez, you seem like a playoff lock.
Imo, the Senators are the most impressive team this season so far.

I'm not too worried about the knee issues.
lol if we have 2 wingers better than Michalek, might as well give us the Cup given our strength all over the line-up. For example, in a healthy season and with a decent line-up around him (team sucked in 2010-11) Michalek scored 35 goals and added 25 assists. Tied with Corey Perry (guy who just signed for 8 millions per yer) and outscoring Rick Nash, Bobby Ryan and Ryan Getzlaf. Funny thing is all played more games.

Imagine :

Star-Spezza-Star
Michalek-Turris-Alfredsson
Regin-Zibanejad-Silfverberg
Greening-Smith-Neil
Condra/Kassian/Daugavins

Methot-Karlsson
Cowen-Gonchar
Wiercioch-Phillips
Gryba/Benoit

Anderson
Lehner

Our defense/goaltending/depth is already elite (when healthy), that would be unfair if our top-6 was Elite as well. But not saying I'm against it lol. Just saying it's unlikely to have everything in life

Hopefully, some of Zibanejad, Silfverberg, Puempel, Noesen, Stone, Petersson, Prince and Petersson develop as star scoring wingers. Or we're able to grab a star somewhere else.

Someone explain what is the problem they have with Michalek again?
Well, nothing that they really understand. I have posted things like this on this board so many times already and did it ever change opinions? Sometimes I doubt

Conclusion : people form their opinions on intangible things, they judge quickly but do they look at the whole picture before forming an opinion? Not really...

He played two games, then blew out his knee and missed the season. You have to count that. 2003.

Missed the entire 2004-05 season (lockout) due to knee injury. Just got 'lucky' it was a lockout year.

And then this year.

That's three full seasons. I don't understand your point in excluding this year and his rookie year. Why don't they count?
Point is he didn't miss any significant time in the last 8 years, until this season where he'll miss only 33 games (if he doesn't come back until the end of the regular calendar)

Lockout years suck.

Was down to trade him in the summer and earlier this season *only if he can bring a good return back, not just dump for the sake of it*

Not now as you wont get **** for him.

I hope he comes back and does really well, hopefully we make playoffs and he does some damage...builds his value back up and then trade him quick in the summer/before draft.

I think he can almost be replaced from within. Maybe not, but he will bring something good back and maybe, if lucky, we package him with others and get a significant upgrade.

I know he produces but I think he poaches points and does not create much himself and will only go downhill from here. Wicked shot but not much else offensively.

How can people say Michalek hasnt missed large portions of time?

16
16
5
15(so far)

He has missed close to 20% of his games as a Senator... And he is getting older, his knees getting worse, it probably wont get any better...

Thanks for the recognition. This is truly an exceptional season, one that I doubt anybody has ever seen before, and that is not an over statement.

Can anybody think of a case like this? A team considered average, devastated by long team injuries to their top players and still doing well above expectations?

So what's the deal with Michalek? Any chance of having him back before playoffs/for the playoffs?

no new news.

at the time of surgery, timetable was said to be about a month. Sens last game is the 27th of april, hopefully he can come back and get some game-time before the season ends, but I think a safer bet is a round 1 return.

Looks like Milo could be back in time for the playoffs.

Milan Michalek is able to ride a stationary bike now about 2 weeks after surgery. And it looks likely that he can play before playoffs.

If all it was going take was 3-4 weeks to return why didn't they do the surgery a month ago. Maybe Michalek was worried about it?

Murray just said in an interview with Ron Wilson during Pre-game that Michalek skated today and should be 1.5 weeks!

This is a quote from Michalek from today's Sun:
"Hopefully I'm close (to returning)," he said. "Maybe a week or a few days, we'll see how it goes."

Good question. Depends on how good Conacher will be doing with his new line mates

That's honestly not even a bad idea, Kassian causes traffic in front of the net and bangs in the dirty goals off the chances Spezza and Michalek create. Kinda like what Chicago did with Byfuglien in their playoff run.
