No, but if Spezza and Michalek only play 5 minutes maybe they can escape injury.

Travis Yost essentially said he'd be back tomorrow against Philly. Is there any truth to this statement? What's the most recent update?

Everything I've heard from the media and the coach suggests he will play whenever he knocks on PMs door to say he is ready to play. Could be tomorrow or it could be at some later point.

I saw something on the ticker on the Score a day or two ago saying he was expected to play by the end of this road trip. Could very well be true.

Nice knowing he is days away from getting back on the ice.. if not tomorrow against Philly. I wonder where they will slot him into the lineup.

Whatever, I'm beyond sick and tired of him being injured

He's a first line talent that isn't there when we need him the most and hasn't been good in the playoffs over his career

I'm done actively liking him: he helps the team when he's there and that's good but not good enough if we want to be an elite team

McGuire said it best when he said does Ottawa want to invest on Michalek in the future and keep him around as a main piece with all his injuries.

Time to make a trade(offseason)

Who's going to give us anything of value for him? He isn't useless or anything (he is a 30 goal scorer) but I can't imagine anybody offering anything substantial for a guy who always gets hurt at the worst of times

I think we just let him walk after next season; hopefully the prospects pan out so that Murray doesn't feel like he has to keep him

People act/talk like Michalek is consistently injured...

He played 224 of the 285 possible games for Ottawa, which is 79%
He played 315 of the 322 possible games for San Jose, which is 98%
He played 539 of the 613 possible games for both teams, which is 88%

Sure, he has been more injured in Ottawa for our liking but it's not PM Bouchard or Tim Connolly territory, not even close. It's actually a lot closer than the average for a NHLer which would probably around 85%-90% (pure guess)

It could be just a stretch in his career where is injured more than usual and maybe he won't miss a lot of games in the next 5 years, who knows? Most players have those stretches in their careers (Alfie, Malkin, Crosby...). He was a bit too lucky injury wise with the Sharks in his first 4 years and now he has a down in that regard.

For me, it's next year that will tell us what we should do with him in the future.

Missing 20% of your teams games is missing alot... I dont care if he played 99% of his games before he came to Ottawa... Since he has come here he been oft-injured...

These knee problems dont usually go away with more wear and tear as a player gets older...

By your logic let's get rid of Spezza because he's always injured.

Michalek scored 35G last year on Spezza's wing. He's unquestionably a top 6 forward. Got a number of good years in him at age 29, and is affordable at 4.33M........yet people want to get rid of him.

Don't understand this boards hate of Michalek.

Hes always hurt
He had 1 great year
He doesnt perform in playoffs

He has one year left on his deal... Are you ok with signing him long term given the history on his knees? I dont know if I would be comfortable signing him longterm...

Spezza is money in the playoffs

Spezza gets injured but he's usually there for important games (obviously not this year)

Michalek goes down at the end of the year and when he doesn't he's just not very good in the playoffs

He's a good player, first line talent even (though he'd be at his best on a second line I think) but if the Ottawa Senators want to be elite we need our top players to play regularly: Michalek doesn't fit that definition unfortunately

I don't hate him, I just think we'd be better off with someone who's more reliable both with injuries and playoffs

So who do we go and replace him with? Considering we have 0 top 6 wingers better than him presently, when we should have 4 if we're going to justify getting rid of him.

If there are real concerns about 9MM long-term, then they won't give him a long-term deal. Pretty straight forward.

Im not sure who we replace him with... Im just saying that why fand talk about keeping him around...

Last year we got rid of Foligno because we had all sorts of top 6 guys coming thru the system to replace him... We will prob need to trade or go UFA to find another top line guy down the road...

i think that's the biggest problem. there isn't anyone to replace him. so i don't understand the hurry to get rid of him. i'm fine with re-signing michalek if he gives us a good deal. similar to what currently he's getting paid.

98% for San Jose? You seem to be ignoring the 2003-04 season, which he missed entirely with a torn knee ligament, playing 7 games in the AHL, 2 with San Jose.

Needs to be taken into account.

This is all soo eerily similar as to when the Senators got Leclaire from CBJ

Quite a few posters on here said "most of his injuries are unrelated, it was just a freakish coincidence after the other he'll be fine"

The other group told people "what matters is that these "freak accidents" happen to him everywhere he goes, they aren't likely to magically stop happening in Ottawa"

And they didn't stop; hell he got injured sitting on the freaking bench!

Michalek has bad knee history and it matters

I like Michalek but I was hoping we'd trade him last year.

I agree with the poster that suggested we trade him at the draft

Let's wait and see how his knee holds up after this surgery before we let our best winger walk for nothing...
