Because they all suck. Irving wasn't even their starter in the minors.

I wonder if Feaster is thinking a 48-game tank might be worthwhile. Lots of "Iginla to the Pens" rumors, since the Pens can take on 13 million in salary right now (and 20-ish at the deadline).

They were already giving him a penalty on the play, and they effectively gave him an instigating minor in the unsportsmanlike minor.

If they'd given him a rulebook instigator, they'd have had to tack on the extra two for the visor, at which point you're putting the hawks down for six minutes, which is excessive, especially given how much of a jackass Thornton can be on the ice.

The rulebook says this:
Quote:
The Referees are provided very wide latitude in the penalties with which they may impose under this rule. This is done intentionally to enable them to differentiate between the obvious degrees of responsibility of the participants either for starting the fighting or persisting in continuing the fighting. The discretion provided should be exercised realistically.
And, honestly, I think they made the right choice in this situation. He effectively got his original penalty and two for "instigating." The extra two for the visor would be excessive at that point.

No point having a rule if you don't call it. If it's 6 min then it's 6 min. Inventing an unsportsmanlike penalty to avoid doing your job is weaksauce. Then again this league doesn't have a rulebook, it's more like a guidelinesbook. Arrrrr!

Yeah I very strongly disagree. If the rule exists you need to call it. Toews tossed his gloves off, shoved thornton a good 4-5 times and gave a couple soft jabs as well. Only then did Thornton finally drop his gloves.

I will say again, if that is not instigating, nothing is.

If the refs had already decided to give Toews a penalty even before the gloves came off, then give him 6 minutes and a game, that is what he deserves for that temper tantrum he threw. Too bad for his teammates if Toews is going to be selfish and go off the deep end.

As for Thornton's behaviour? Yeah, he is a whiny little diver, and deserved a minor for diving. That does not excuse what Toews did. It was blatantly obvious he instigated that fight under any possible definition of the word.

In the "Who's going to overpay for Luongo matinee" between Florida and TB Lindback gave up a goal in the first minute.

Bjugstad + Goc + 1st

Connolly + Purcell + 1st

If Tampa added Luongo they'd instantly be a contender to go deep.

Yeah no kidding. Toronto and Florida I can see being hesitant because it's unlikely they'll go deep but TB as you said would instantly be strong contenders.

If they started to express interest perhaps Florida would start getting serious in fear of having to face Luongo (a former star player) in the division for the next 10 years.

EDIT: Theodre gives up another on 2-1

I dunno. I'm not that enamored with their D. Salo's far and away their best guy and that's scary.

But that offense is capable of winning games so long as the
goalie can help cover up for the weak D.

Flames' new #1 center Blake Comeau on being shifted from his natural wing position to play with Iginla and Glencross:

Especially an elite goalie who thrives on a lot of shots. He could cover up for a lot of miscues or lapses.

And Florida ends up losing in OT 6-5. See which team wants him more.

I don't see Yzerman going after Luongo because he probably will build the team Detriot style......cheap goaltending good defense and solid offense

Damn tampa offense seems to be pretty good only D and goalie need work

Yzerman hasn't proven he can build on the blue line or in net yet.

Benoit Pouliot is one of those players that hurts his own team's chances to win.

Was happy that he was with Boston, now tampa got him. lol

Just like the Washington/Florida game last week where the score ended up 6-5. (I forget for who)

Two possible trade partners destroying each others goalie.

... another night Gillis won't be needing his Cialis.
