Oilers iced some pretty awful teams the past couple years, and if you want to go back farther the 06 Blues were a downright disgrace

Coming back to the mean...not sure I understand what you mean. We were lucky last year to avoid injury and now it's bit us? Or you think elite level players like Spezza and Karlsson over achieved? Because if it's the latter, you're wrong.

Turris is not a #1 centre.
Gonchar is not a #1 defensement

To expect playoffs from this roster is not realistic.
I said they could contend, but never guaranteed an appearance. They've had a good start so if they can just stay afloat they could end up anywhere from 7th-11th. It's not always about the roster, sometimes coaching and work can get you there.

Sens won't even be the worst team this year... Unless we lose Anderson, of course.

OP said "Gonchar gets the most ice-time now that Karlsson is gone. And ask any fan of the Senators, he is bad, he's really bad."

That's all I'm getting at. He hasn't been that bad.

Please, compare their lineup to what Edmonton or Colorado have iced at their worst over the past 3-4 years and you look like a team full of all-stars.

Edmonton, Columbus and NYI have all fielded worse teams.

I think you will once he's gone.

He's not the dynamic player he used to be but the guy is consistently one of the smartest players at both ends of the ice and the only one outside of EK somewhat capable of setting up on the powerplay. I'm not sure what more you want from this guy.

You can say he's not a #1 defenceman, lost a step, should never be paired with Phillips because of lack of foot speed, doesn't fit into the long term plans, that we could do better for the money (but then who? and when?)...that's all fair, IMO. However, the amount of flak he gets (and you gave him in the OP) is dispropportionate to the actual contribution he makes on the ice. He is not a bad player on the whole.

I think they will unload Bishop or Lehner (Sens fans know which is more likely to be moved) for some immediate help. It sucks losing Karlsson and Spezza for long periods of time, but at least the Senators have some good young guys in Zinanejad and Silfverberg who should be fun to watch even if they are being thrown to the fire early. It should help their development in the long run.

Here's hoping. Steph Da Costa is the one I'm having a lot of fun watching right now too. Very slick.

I agree, but we still need at least one forward reinforcement and 1 D-man reinforcement.

On paper, it is the worst team in the Northeast, but I'd bet that you guys still finish ahead of us (Sabres) just due to having the better coach.

NOOOO!!!! I was listening to the post-game podcast of the Sabres game on Team radio last night my time (I live in India, so I miss the actual games as they're played ridiculously early here) and they were commenting that the Sens are competitive without Spezza, but if something were to happen to Karlsson then we'd be screwed.

In the finest tradition of sports superstition, I'd ask that you not to jinx us please.

The Senators have been absolutely decimated by injuries so far this year, 8 regulars are injured at the time of this post: that's almost half the team

After last year when the team did well and was healthy it's especially painful

If we were to make the playoffs, he would likely play in them. But we won't, so he won't. So I'm guessing next year.

I don't expect guys like Greening, Smith, Condra, O'brein, and daugavins to get the credit they deserve. And they aren't the best players but they are very good players who understand what the coach wants. I'm expecting Smith and condra to surprise a lot of people. It's nice to have guys like Da Costa and Zibanejad who still experienced have shown an ability to provide offense for this team. I have really liked when Zibanejad, DaCosta and Alfredsson have been together, they create opportunities. I'm confident Maclean will put together a game plan that will get the most out of this group.

Greening has sucked all year. Daugavins and O'Brien have both been healthy scratches this year and both Smith and Condra would be third liners on the Blue Jackets.

I fully agree with the last sentence, but the most out of this group still isn't very much.

The Senators were worse in '10-'11 than they are right now, let alone "worst team in the league in years". Kind of a ridiculous topic.
Yeah, you realize EK led the league in shots eh?

People clearly didnt watch this team. EK wasnt just our best player, he was the entire team. When he wasnt on the ice we were in our end a good 80% if the time. Our goal differential with him on the ice is great, without him horrible.

This team is boned barring some remarkable play that we havent yet seen.

Um, no. The point here is that Ottawa's injuries make the lineup look pretty weak right now.
