Not sure how much truth there is to this, but have heard that:

1) Colorado has yet to send in the paperwork to the league that they've matched,
2) Colorado is now having second thoughts and may not match after all.

Could there a deal be in the works with Columbus, whereby Colorado doesn't match and Columbus ends up with Riley????

Damn, just saw they submitted.

Because despite everyone's fantasies here, I don't think it would have occurred that way.

If Colorado did NOT match, once NHL notified Calgary that RoR would have to be put on waivers to play for them this season, Calgary would simply NOT PLAY RoR at all this season.

It's a steep price for merely one season of RoR, but Calgary really doesn't have to put him on waivers if they don't play him midseason. RoR would be there at the start of next season. Simple.

While Calgary does have to qualify RoR after 2014 at $6.5 million, there's speculation that they already had handshake deal for a longer term contract for less cap hit. They don't have to offer him the minimum qualifying offer. For e.g. Calgary and RoR could agree to a 4 year, $16 million dollar deal after 2014.

Point #2 - to all those who are criticizing Colorado for reacting too quickly to the offersheet. They had to, as they can only trade RoR a calendar year after matching the offersheet.

So Feb 28, 2014 for example would be close to the trade deadline for next year, so every day matters.

So to that point, if we signed Omark, we couldn't just leave him in Europe, he'd automatically be on waivers?

I must admit I though the Flames might be able to pull a quick rebuild off by trading iggu and Kipper this year. I am now very excited to see what Feaster has planned in the next month. I sense a deal for Lecavlier involving Bartschi

The word "A" is really key.

However, there is the argument that the conditions for avoiding waivers are only limited to the following:

1) A player must be on “a” Club's Reserve List and Restricted Free Agent List, and;

2) He must sign a contract mid-season.

In other words, the language doesn't not expressly provide that a player may only avoid waivers if he re-signs with the team that holds his rights (in this case the Avs). Instead, it states that so long as the player is on “a” Club's Reserve and Restricted Free Agent list, he will not be subject to waivers before playing, regardless of where he signs.

I see that the same way in technical speak too. "A" implies any club, where as "THE" would be less ambigious and restricted to own club owning rights.

But I'm an engineer, not a lawyer, so my understanding of legal speak and twists on words isnt as good as a lawyer's.

I mean, lets face it, Feaster isn't as ******** as people are making him out to be, otherwise why would he even have a job in any place?

Interesting. As a fellow fat lawyer, I actually agree with Feaster.

He's on our RFA list, so he wouldn't have to clear waivers if we signed him.

I interpret this to mean that the player must be on a clubs reserve list and Restricted Free Agent list, meaning that he must be on both those lists for the one club. Not that he must be on "A" reserve list and the NHL's RFA list (if that makes sense). Regardless, all the Lames would have had to do is call the League Office to get the official interpretation, which they obviously failed to do.

Meanwhile Ales Hemsky is leading the entire NW division in goals while Calgary almost gave away a first and third round pick.

Who's laughing now?

It absolutely boggles my mind when a Hawk fan says they should fire Quenville...

Hah. I just noticed John Shannon's latest tweet: The Maple Leafs aren't playing on a Saturday this week.

Further proof that NHL general managers are the worst in all of professional sports.

Watching the Canadiens' game and wow..

Refs are brutal against teams that aren't Oilers as well.

I can hear them yelling "TABARNAC!" right now

Cogliano can only play centre......

This was said time and again when he was here. I always shook my head and asked.....why? Well he's in Anaheim now, is playing wing, has taken only 5 faceoffs this year. 6 goals, 6 assits, plus player.

Another potentially useful bottom two line player we let go and will watch play really well for years for another team.

Potentially useful is the key word. Even if he played wing here, everybody would be complaining that he adds no size to the line-up. Oilers acquired another team's cast off in Ryan Jones and came out winners. It happens all the time around the league.

Nonetheless, speaking of former Oilers' prospects doing well (at least for one evening)...
