I guess Vancouver should be worried

Was just watching TSN and they were trolling - they had Al Montoya on there doing an interview and they claimed he was a member of the Jets. Wonder if the Rags were in on it too?

A couple more bullies on the team and our skilled players for the most part are better and in higher number than the other teams.

I'm just glad we get to leave Minnesota. Tired of losing to them constantly. The only team that I wish stayed was Colorado, but you can't win them all. If Anaheim loses Getzlaf and Perry that could be useful.
Vancouver is beatable, San Jose is quickly getting old. If Clowe leaves this year and one of Marleau and Thornton leave via free agency they are a lot less intimidating. Phoenix is nothing to worry about in a couple of years. If they even stay.

Its awesome to see Detroit fans excitement about moving to the east.

All in all, if the stars align, Edmonton can benefit from this with some shrewd management and solid development. Unfortunately I'm not sure if we can get both.

Getzlaf re-signs 8 years... there goes him off our wish list (okay fantasy list)

8.25mil is what Kypreos heard last nite. That's a lot of dough.

That's a huge number. Where does that put him as far as highest paid NHL'ers? Top 10 I law

Wow that seems like a huge overpayment imo.

edit: Yeah Bobby Mac is reporting that as the AAV on his twitter.

It puts Getzlaf tied for 4th with Eric Staal behind only Ovechkin, Malkin and Crosby. He's a good player, but I don't think he's Top 5 in salary good.

He's worth the money, but that's what a team should give him at free agency. Minus the one year.

I'm really surprised that Anaheim couldn't sign him for less considering his obsession with staying in California.

I'm sure he would've rather stayed in California, but it doesn't change the fact that the Ducks needed him a lot more than he needed them. The extra ~$3M is a lot more tollerable for the Ducks than not having Getz next year.

Eh. I can't imagine that they would have had competition from LA and San Jose for his services. I think that the Ducks held serve here.

Whatever. His game seems to be turning around after his awful 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 seasons and he's won a Stanley Cup and an Olympic Gold. The Ducks probably aren't sweating it.

Does this mean Perry hits UFA status now?

Maybe not from the two Californian teams, but someone would've given him that number. If I'm in his place and a team like Phoenix (just an example, we all know they'renot the team to spend on high priced UFAs) was offering $8.5M and all Anaheim is willing to spend is $6.5M, I wouldn't have a problem moving. That's a lot of dough.

And like I said, in the end, losing out on Getzlaf (especially if Perry wants to test the market too) is a lot less desireable to the Ducks than a new zip code is to Getzlaf.

If they sign Perry it sounds like Ryan would then be dealt.

Although couldn't you keep those 3 and let Koivu and Selanne go?

Problem is he wants to stay in California, but lets say he would think about Dallas or Phoenix. Neither of those two teams strike me as a team that would offer him 8.5 over 8 anyways.

The money would've came from the East or Edmonton/Calgary. By all accounts that's not what he wants.

ANA should've played hardball a bit longer.

That's a bit much. Guess he wasn't down for a hometown discount. Quite surprised actually.

He's got the talent to be a top 5 scorer imo. If he played in the East it wouldn't be debatable.
