What would Ottawa want in return?

Frolik and a 3rd?

Saad-Toews-Hossa
Sharp-Bolland-Kane
Stalberg-Shaw-Neil
Carcillo-Kruger-Bickell

I love that lineup. You can also make him interchangeable with Carcillo and Bickell and put him on the fourth line if need be.

I think it would take a huge overpayment to get Neil out of Ottawa

Neil is invaluable to this team from a leadership perspective. I think it's a case where he is more important to Ottawa and more valuable to Ottawa than to any other team. I doubt he will ever be moved unless it is for a massive overpayment.

Neil isn't for sale for anything that would realistically be offered.

I'd think Leddy is untouchable right now.

Not to mention that Ottawa couldn't get Leddy for those players, nevermind Chicago having to add anything.

It won't be for a 2nd rounder and a prospect.

With the injuries in Ottawa and so many of the team being youngsters, it would take something you won't like to get Murray to pick up the phone.

Of course, if you are overpaying, there is a big market out there.

Uh, I don't want Neil and there's not a GM in the league that would give up a player as good and young as Leddy for a glorified 4th liner and AHL goaltender with "potential". If Neil's not available, he's not available.. but if he is, he'll be had for far, far less.

He's worth more to Ottawa than what the Hawks would be willing to give up.

These threads are always terrible, and always go the same way:

- Fan of team #1 asks about player who clearly holds more value to his current team than to most any other team in the league.
- Fans of team #2 in respond that he isn't on the block, and so acquiring him will require much more than the typical cost of a player of his ability.
- Fans of team #1 are outraged that fans of team #2 think the player in question is worth whatever overpayment they suggested would be required.

Free of context, Neil and his contract are probably worth a mid-late 2nd and project prospect. In reality, Ottawa wouldn't think twice about moving him for that.

In reality, if Neil was on the block, that's exactly the kind of offer Ottawa would accept.

It's pretty simple: If Neil was available, he'd be available for a helluva lot less than Nick Leddy. Right now, it doesn't sound like he's available, so value is moot.

Phillip Danault, Shawn Lalonde and a 3rd. But I think Neil stays in Ottawa, his cap-hit is team friendly and the organization loves him.

This comes from Hockeybuzz, where the Hawks writer claimed there is a rumor of Neil for one of the Hawks bottom 6ers. I don't recall a JJ rumor ever coming through, so it's probably safe to say that this isn't happening.

Unless that bottom six guy is Shaw or Bickell no thanks.

agreed. if there is one thing ottawa does not need its bottom 6 players. Although if you took Neil then we'd need a super tough, team guy who will fight anyone, not take stupid penalties, be the biggest and most frequent hitter on the team and be able to pot 10-15 goals while wearing an A. it would also be nice if could play his entire career in ottawa as well.

so we could use one of those if we trade Neil.
