I like that he's looking into finding some way to prove it, but it was silly to come public with it.
After all he does have a lot of money invested in this as a brand, as a team and in Karlsson specifically as a player.
It's brilliant timing and I'd bet anything this is calculated. This is meant to galvanize the team, the ol' us against the world theme.
It's perfect actually, it's Melnyk calling out the Pens, maybe using the media to have them continuously pester the Pens and Cooke with questions. Get them off their game, maybe, just maybe gain an edge when the time comes.
Here's another example, Pat Quinn and his bluster. Remember the erroneous, "kid spit on him" and the classic "I can't even look at that kid that took out Berard's eye". It's all the same thing, bluster designed to put the media eye on the other team.
When Quinn used to say these things, the stupid hockey media called him a master manipulator, but who was he manipulating...the stupid hockey media.
They would get his quotes and run en mass into the Sens dressing room and ask the players and coach about nothing else, every game. It doesn't take a master to manipulate the media, this is the same thing. Embrace it.
