Armada get the 5th overall pick in 2014, becomes last pick of round 1 if Tesink is traded.

Sea Dogs lose nothing.

I'm sorry that's stupid... Giving them a 1st and whatever asset if he's traded...
Favoritism..

I CANNOT believe we received the 5th overall pick in 2014. That is some funny ****. We're suddenly in greap shape especially if we get to keep Tesink as an overrager. Holy crap. That is some great GMing by Bouchard.

Can't believe this decision. So the Armada basically got an elite player for 2 draft spots. Incredible, I can only imagine how many teams will start appealing trades. The league just opened a window that should have been kept shut.

I can't agree more..

It's cause the SeaDogs played with the draft years ago...

Guess what, every team does it...

Testing was injured after he got hurt... That's just stupid.

Courteau is a joke..

The Armada have 2 1sts in 2014 now..

That just made a complete farce of this league if it wasnt already. What a *** joke....
RN might as well appeal the Patrice cormier trade from a few years ago....they could argue that Rimouski knew he was going to make a stupid hit since he had done so at the world juniors.

Trading will never be the same in the league.

The outcome is quite favorable for the Armada, but let's not get carried away.

I'm not overly familiar with the situation, but I believe Bouchard was told Tesink was healthy when he came to Blainville. It turned out he wasn't.

He was right to ask for repay as SJ lied/wasn't honest about the health status of the player.

What is outrageous is the actual worth of the repayment.

Maybe they should do like the NHL does and make the trades dependable on health status, if the team asks for it. That could solve many disagreements.

That might seem like a problem to some because most of the trades happen on the deadline day. But too bad, if you lie about the status of a player, you're gonna pay for it and lose the value.

Your post is an outright lie. Where in the world do you get that Saint John lied about the status of Tesink? Heck, even the league said itself in it's statement that this was not the case.

http://www.theqmjhl.ca/article/ryan-tesink-case/144547

Sea Dogs’ General Manager, Mike Kelly, relied on the reports and opinions that were given to him by specialists, when he signed, what we believe to be in good faith, the trade declaration on January 2, 2013.

To this point, the undersigned is of the opinion that the Saint John Sea Dogs’ integrity cannot be questioned.

You are correct though, in saying that you are not familiar with the situation.

So the league basically says that SJ did nothing wrong, but they feel bad for BB so they will let them keep Tesink and award them the 5th overall pick next season for their troubles. Completely and utterly bogus. what a mickey mouse league this is.

It still blows my mind that BLB got compensation after they found no wrong doing of SJ. It's either X or O. Why would the league reward a team like this ? I think they've causeD themselves a lot of future headaches and extra work. Not to mention looking like fools.

I really wish a number of the other teams would get together and cry foul on this. I can't imagine why some of them wouldn't, unless they're afraid of the league or the league has privately explained the situation to the teams and they see it acceptable.

A 5th overall pick is BIG compensation and has big ramifications on the other teams, especially those drafting 6-10.

Perhaps part of the league strategy on this is that since the draft order next year is completely unknown there won't be a specific team(s) to complain (ie the teams that would be selecting directly after the league-donated pick).

If you were to reverse the situation, Saint John would walk away wit nothing.

No question in my mind - maybe even penalized for wasting the league's time.

Now that this can of worms has been opened and subsequently spilled all over the ground... one can only assume that other teams will find other ways to abuse this precedent.

Trades in the Q aren't conditional on players passing medicals conducted by their new team?

The problem here is that Tesink played 6 games for his new team before there was a problem.

i couldnt agree more! That's the part i can't get over.....i could completely agree if Tesink was injured before going and BBB had relied on saint john doctors information/reports that Tesink would be ok in a couple weeks, or whatever amount of time and then in the end it would have been completely false, but, that is not the case here whatesoever. BBB knew what they were getting, and used him for 6 games and then he got injured. Not much different than when the wildcats got Bourdon...
This basically removes all the risk from the acquiring teams.

The fact that they're getting compensation is unacceptable.
