Washington Capitals 2012 Development Guide (once published)

Other Notes:

With the rules for NCAA players regarding expenses plus some players attending summer school, and little notice for the recently selected picks, wait to see who the Caps say are scheduled to attend. Several of the recently drafted prospects indicated they did plan to attend but that was draft weekend.

Nathan Walker huh? Nice.

I secretly wish the caps would have drafed him. If only for the accent.

LOL, now there's a reason to use a draft pick on a player.

By the way, as discussed in the draft thread, he was a player there was a lot of chatter about expecting a team to take a risk on him with a late round pick heading into the draft and looking forward to seeing him on the ice. However, he’s a '94 and he falls under the same rules Hyka did last summer (when Philly tried to sign him,) under 22yo, played outside NA last year (CZ Rep), so my understanding per the CBA rules is that the Caps couldn’t sign him this summer; he’ll be available in the draft next summer.

Is it too early to call in sick?

I sure hope all our fresh picks will be there.

Edit, see above.

edit again - and yes, Forsberg and Wilson will be there, as will Schilling, as will 4 current NCAA prospects.

He had wrist surgery in the spring, believe late March; it's my guess as to why he's not listed, but also possible they consider him past the point of attending the D camp since he played pro last season. Based on past years regarding injured players, sometimes they fly them in to see the doctors and participate in some of the off-ice stuff, but don't list them on the roster.

update: Vogel tweeted "graduated" in reply to a question re. Grubauer.

Also, all signs pointed to Nick Larson being released / Caps not planning on signing; here's one last exclamation point; never attended development camp since being drafted.

Glad to see Stefishen returning, here's hoping no injuries for Stefishen or any of the prospects during camp!

I know this isn't specifically about development camp, but since I pulled this info. together to respond to the question after the draft, I thought I'd post the info. here since it relates to many of the players attending the dev. camp.

For the next U20, here’s a list of all of the eligible prospects regardless of how much of a longshot; note ’92s are no longer eligible for WJC U20; have to be born in ’93 or later.

Sweden: Filip Forsberg, C/W, 8/13/94; Christian Djoos, D, 8/6/94; Forsberg was on Sweden’s U20 team last year

USA: Riley Barber, RW, 2/7/94; Travis Boyd, C, 9/14/93; Connor Carrick, D, 4/13/94; Thomas Di Pauli, C, 4/29/94; Garrett Haar, D, 8/16/93; Austin Wuthrich, RW, 8/11/93

Canada: Jaynen Rissling, D, 9/21/93; Chandler Stephenson, C/LW, 4/22/94; Tom Wilson, RW, 3/29/94

Norway is not in the tournament being played in Ufa, Russia; set to play in France in Div I Group A in December: Steffen Soberg, G, 8/6/93

More info:

USA: The Capitals have 4 prospects scheduled to attend the USA U20 Evaluation Camp in August in Lake Placid. D: Carrick and Haar; F: Di Pauli and Boyd.

All are considered long shots at this time for the U20 team (coached by Housley, assisted by Grant Potulny and Mark Osiecki), but still a positive that they will get the camp experience in August, which includes games against teams brought over from Finland and Sweden.

Sweden: Forsberg is on the preliminary Team Sweden roster for the camp held before the team travels to the US.

Canada: Tom Wilson is on Team Canada’s roster for the Canada Russia Challenge in August to be played in Yaroslavl, Russia and Halifax, Canada.

Interesting that the Caps list Forsberg as a center. I wonder if that's where they play him at camp.

I debated how to list him: C, W, C/W,. I listed him as a W because of feedback from people who have watched him play in Sweden. I'm going to edit it and go back to C/W. As to the position on the roster, I assume it's because he was listed on the NHL draft info. in the system as a C; I am not reading anymore into it at this time, but yes, it will be interesting to see where they slot him next week.

Where did Soberg play last season.....I know the Broncos drafted him, and that he never came over......but there are no stats on hockey db indicating where he played.

played with Manglerud in Norway. Only played about half a season. The Broncos held his rights for a while which I think prevented him from playing anywhere else

That is true. He couldn't play for any team while they held back his license or whatever that is.

He played for Manglerud/Star, which pretty much goes with the nick "youth team" in the Norwegian League. The can't afford much, so they always roster a very young team every year. They got relegated this season.

He is going to play for Vålerenga next season. Signed a four year deal. That is the most succesful club in Norway. Winning some 25+ titles I think. Their head coach is former NHL'er Espen Knutsen. This season they played with Patrick DesRochers in the net.

Interesting to see that Andreas Martinsen is also going to your camp.
