Right, but Semin's getting like .950 goaltending behind him when he's on the ice (Brouwer's at like .910, which I think is low for 5-on-5 but not positive). His line is hot in that respect. I don't think you can give them the credit for that, though, since their chance differential is pretty crummy. They're just getting more saves behind them than you'd normally expect them to.

Also note that Semin is shooting at 7% right now and Brouwer at 21% Edit: Oddly enough they have identical career numbers of 13.8%.
Funny how you offered scrutiny of the +/- claims but not the goals.
I guess Semin's been getting .950 goaltending for years though....
It's amazing that so many of the people who obsessively quote back Schultz's +/- consistently can't remember what it actually was. 50 is such a nice, round number too.
Hopefully you didn't spill over your box of split hairs and knit pickings in responding to my miscalculation of 2 points.

I don't staturbate enough to know the specifics that deep down, though could the ****** save percentage be an end result of Brouwer's play...which has an end result of a ****** +/-?
You would think that a BRUISING POWER FORWARD WITH ROCKET SHOT would have a better +/- than an ice dancing, wussbag, halfassed power play player, wouldnt you?
And as to that point, no, I wouldn't. I was going into that expecting Semin's underlying numbers to blow Brouwer's out of the water (because possession beats all). I'm quite surprised at what they really are though.

Do you honestly think that Carolina will re-up Semin at 7 million? I don't.

I might buy it if they were Dmen, and you could just say "Brouwer's giving up great chances in front of his goalie, Semin's not" but... these are wingers. No way do I buy that. Especially since CAR tends to do better at chances for vs chances against when Semin and Staal are not on the ice. Brouwer is slightly in the positive in that respect, but not by much.
To me, the +/- issue is a simple one. Brouwer's line is shooting at an abysmal sh% at even strength (Backstrom might be a big culprit there) but he's producing on the PP. Ergo more raw production than Semin, poor +/-, probably unlucky overall.

Barring Chad Larose going off his meds, they only have Kevin Westgarth to resign for forwards with 10 million dollars in extra cap space...so...why not? He'll end up getting 7 mil somewhere else if not.

So Eric Staal has wanted a competent winger for years now, finally got an elite winger he has amazing chemistry with, and they'd let him go because... why exactly?
Unlike McPhee, I don't think Rutherford's job is to actively try to make his team worse at every opportunity.

Given that Eric Staal has taken his game to an elite level playing next to Semin, I think Carolina will make a serious run at keeping Semin long term. Fat paycheck and everything.
brouwer should have waited a bit before saying anything about semin or BB. at least wait till they fail and we succeed, then you wont look like a complete idiot.
Brouwer is starting to show an anti Eastern European sentiment towards his ex teammates (Semin, Hamrlik, Neuvirth). Reading his full comments about Semin and others he almost sounds jealous of their skillset with no clue what he's really even talking about. He mentioned Hamrlik "had it easy". Never realized Brouwer grew up in Czechoslovakia (Central Europe really) under Communist rule.
So skill players don't have to work at their trade or didn't have to "work" to obtain their skill?
Anyone willing to bet on who finishes the year with more goals, Semin or Brouwer?
Although Semin can fall back on being a damn good passer (I think he is as good as Nick) when he wants to be, cutting back on the goals perhaps.
Semin like many scorers go hot and cold. With 4 goals, I don't think he has hit a hot spot yet. Brouwer may well have increased the chances it will happen against us.

You're obviously just as biased (in the other direction) as he may be, but where did you get that he grew up in Czechoslovakia? That is interesting.

Um, Brouwer has his name on a Stanley Cup which the other three do not. So I think Brouwer has some idea of what it takes to win the whole thing and not just the Presidents Cup.
