I don't know how I feel about our plan to trade our top PMD for Colorado's version of Jordan Staal, an elite 3rd line center.

I leave it to Sather to work his magic, however.

LA traded Johnson in the Carter deal to Columbus. They still Doughty,Greene,Scuderi,Mitchell and Martinez. That's 5. LA also had Voynov waiting in the wings to replace Johnson. That's 6. Pittsburgh traded Goligoski for Neal and Niskanen. They got back a D in the deal. The Rangers don't have the type of depth on D to trade DZ. They would need to a get back a D in the deal who can step in and play right away such as Tyson Barrie. The Rangers would still need to add more on D. Can McIlrath come up and play?

Dater speculated Shane O'Brien was the D rumored in the trade. That guy stinks. Sather is not taking on O'Brien with 2 more years remaining at a cap hit of $2M.

I can understand not wanting to move MDZ for O'Reilly, but characterizing him as an elite third line center is a disservice. Moreover, his situation is nothing like Staal in Pitsburgh; he was Colorado's #1C last year, and played above both Duchene and Stastny. In fact, he averaged more than 3 minutes of ice time more per game than Duchene (O'Reilly led Avs forwards in ice time).

I would rather have either of those aforementioned pivots, however.

Duchene I could see the argument for due to the hope that he has more untapped potential than O'Reilly but just hasn't shown it yet; however, there's no way I'd take Stastny over O'Reilly.

ROR may be in the same type of situation right now as Jordan Staal. But I would take Staal on this Rangers team 11x out of 10.

This is very true. I would hope for a d-man now and a future guy like Elliott.

Exactly

I would rather have ROR over Stastny, not overly impressed with his game. Duchene is great offensively, defensively he is a work in progress.

The issue with Gaborik is Torts has him on the left side when Gaborik is on the record stating he feels more comfortable on the right side. Torts and Oates are trying to change Gaborik and Ovechkin. Gaborik isn't on the first unit PP. He is playing out of position.

I still don't think Torts is all that fond of Gaborik. Hence why I feel he will be traded over the off-season.

ROR was a dominant ES player last year, but a very low on ice shooting % (~7%) limited his scoring. The Avs averaged 32.6 SF/60 and 25.3 SA/60 when he was on the ice. Those are ridiculous numbers and he did it playing the hardest minutes of all Avs forwards (except Landeskog, more on that later)

If he can keep up that level of play with one of Gaborik/Nash on his wing he'll be a 70p player.

The question is, how much of that was due to Landeskog? They were attached at the hip last year. ROR didn't have nearly as great possession numbers in his previous seasons.

Was 2011-12 a big breakout for ROR, or did he just find great chemistry with a great all-around forward?

If it's mostly the former, I would very much like to trade MDZ for him. But if it's mostly the latter, stay away!

I agree with this. Rick Nash seems to be the embodiment of the type of "star" player Torts wants. Tort's system does not favor Gaborik at all.

Got to give Gabs credit though, he is still able to get elite production in spite of it.

Renney, who loved to run a trap/transition style would have loved Gaborik on the Rangers.

Only reasonable solution is to trade Gaborik for Ovechkin so that both Torts and Oates can be happy!

I think it would be along the lines of: MDZ and Kreider for RoR and Barrie... maybe some minor parts going one way or the other...

I'm not sure how I would feel about it, but young forwards like Miller and Hagelin could make Kreider expendable... Tyson Barrie is a RHD who plays 20 min a night and can play on the PP... I'd rather keep CK and move Boyle + instead of CK, but I don't think that gets it done...

I'm pretty high on Barrie, but I think giving up a Kreider/Miller is too much.

Putting Kreider into the equation would make it an easy "no thanks" from my perspective. If they want Kreider, I would want Johnson as the defenseman coming back, but that isn't happening.

I think the Rangers have a 2 year shot at a Cup w/ this team, and right now the holes are too big to contend this year.

I think they have to get aggressive.

My offer would be Del Z, Kreider, and a non-first round pick FOR O'Reilly, & Ryan Wilson.

Then, go rent a D-man who's a vet w/ a good shot (Robidas, Gonchar, I don't know who's available)

The team will look very different in 2014-15. Give these guys a shot w/ Hank in his late prime.

Depending on other moves that could accelerate and shorten or extend the time, I think our window is 5 years +. Much more than that and guys here now will start end of their careers.

No on MDZ/Kreider unless elite or headache free top return involved going here.

do not want Gonchar --- no D, overpriced, and offense is overrated.

Paul Postma should be our target for D who can shoot.

Bleh, am i the only one who doesn't care much about O'Reilly?

Our big hole is the PP, how moving Del Zotto or Kreider would help in that regard?

Our problems on the PP are not, nor will they ever be, fixed through personnel moves. How many times do we have to bring in new personnel for the PP and have it not work before people stop thinking this?

You get RoR because he's a great fit for this team and he upgrades one thing which many have identified as an issue, which is speed at center. I'm not sure where I fall in the debate on bringing him in, but that stems from a team chemistry concern rather than a on paper one.

With the way Duchene and the way their D is playing any chance the Avs GM stops being greedy and lowers his trade demands? By greedy I mean the "+", not the Del Zotto part.

Don't know why you guys keep asking for Wilson, he's been out since February 3rd with a leg injury. He's on IR, out indefinitely. The guy is made of glass.

EDIT: Also, Shane O'Brien is awful. He got scratched, with defensive nightmares Hunwick, O'Byrne, and Zanon as well as AHL prospect Elliott playing in favor of him. That should tell you something.

No, it was the Avs that called and asked for Del Zotto last week after it became apparent ROR played his last game for the Avs. They want a LHD top 4 DMAN, on a cheap contract to play with EJ.

ROR, is this heart and soul player was passed on by a 19 yearold rookie for the captaincy. ROR won't sign the Duchene deal after both Duchene and EJ both took bridge contracts to set an organizational standard.

ROR, refused both a 7M/2 yrs, and 17M/5 yrs, citing it would take 10M/2 yrs to sign him short term. Col then approached a few teams, one of them being the Rangers, and the asking price was a lateral move with a young PMD (Del Zotto who COL covets), or a proven forward plus a pick.

Rangers listened to COL demands, and said no.

Rangers have a policy of not signing any of its own players to long term deals out of ELC, Staal was an exception but he gave up arbitration years and a UFA year at 5.4M.

Henrik signed a bridge deal, Cally, Dubi, Girardi, Anisimov, Sauer, Del Zotto and the latter of whom played ball like a team player, not holding out, where as ROR has. Trading a core guy after signing the way he did will cause issues with McD, Step, and Hagelin.

On top of everything else, ROR is citing the Statsny deal, where COL did not hold true to the bridge contract, as to why he wants to get paid. COL does not have the organizational standard that the Rangers do, and are playing hardball to reinforce the Duchene, and EJ deals as the reason to not bypass a bridge deal. ROR's agents have COL's management team in a bind because of it.

Oh by the way, this heart and soul player signed a 2 yr deal in the KHL with no out clause to force COL's hand into a trade, and Canadian media has reported that this has the makings of a Turris type situation, where a player demands an obscene contract to force a trade. For those clamoring to get him, please understand what has already taken place before arguing semantics, and what COL's leverage truly is.

I love how Kreider was an untouchable in talks for RICK NASH but he is being thrown in with MDZ for ROR who has 2 average seasons and 1 solid season, though I am still not impressed enough to pay him the money he wants let alone pay the price Colorado wants through a trade. Some of you guys amaze me here and I'm glad you are not the GM's of any organization. Just because Kreider has struggled were ready to move him instantly. The kid can score and just hasn't gotten into a groove nor has he been very involved during games. You have to give him time.

And what message is management saying when they have been handing out these "bridge" contracts to others in the organization. Now they cave and give into demands from someone outside the development of the organization? Where's the loyalty and trust?

And why are we dealing our best PMD? It is mind blowing the way some of you think. You see these "names" or blue chippers and you start salivating. This is not a damn video game or fantasy hockey. You need to develop chemistry. What happens when we bring in RoR and the team continues to play mediocre? And mediocre most likely due to constantly bringing in new personnel. It's flat out stupid. There is a lot of talent on this team. Just because we're not undefeated doesn't mean we need to make a bid for every rumored player on the market.

You guys can be very frustrating, more frustrating than the actual team itself. I come to these boards because there are plenty of intelligent posters on here, but it can really be brutal sometimes.
