Atlant get their first win of the series against SKA.

And in the other series Severstal are back in front.

Seva-Lokomotiv is a tough choice. On the one hand with the tragedy and all I want to see Loko go far, on the other hand Seva has had a great season and they're always most unlucky in the first round... At least this year they're not playing Atlant in round 1 so they might win So clearly I will be happy with whoever is stronger and wins.

Atlant today... wow. Great display of how you should play in play-offs if you're an underdog. I'm not sure though if they can keep it up, I certainly hope so. I mean... would you cheer for a team that has Star Wars theme as their goal song (even though there's probably no other more appropriate song in KHL for SKA) or a team that has "Hop, Hey Hop... Hop, Hey Hop" Well I guess for some it would be a tough choice...

Let's see how newcommers do tonight

Game over for Lev and Slovan. I feel very sorry for them. They gave a good fight against the Moscow teams and I hoped for more.

Yes. I was hoping for Lev to advance through next round mainly because of the pitiful attendance figures in first two CSKA home games. If CSKA reaches Gagarin Cup finals are the finals going to be played in front of 2,000 fans?

No. Away fans.

The attendance numbers will, of course, improve but yeah... Don't expect a packed house. I believe with Slovan and Lev we saw the same thing that happened with Dinamo Rīga and Barys in the first season... Regular season and play-offs are completely two different things in KHL and they weren't ready to really play play-off hockey. But of course Dynamo Moscow and CSKA should also be praised for good hockey. There's still game 4 and I hope at least one of the teams wins it and takes the series back to Moscow but doesn't look like that at the moment

Then again... the strongest teams win. It's fair.

Hard to say he's really a kid... After a week or so he'll be 26 Perhaps a late bloomer like Popov from Omsk Avangard.
Funny that according to eliteprospects.com he's played a season for Liepājas Metalurgs and Latvian league when he really was a kid... Good luck to him though, great play-offs so far.
Other notable VHL alumni in play-offs is Nichushkin, though he also played MHL this year too

agree. We will see in future. SY Ufa has a few guys from VHL (Emelin etc). Was not Bespalov VHL goalie? And nightmare of SKA - Galimov? Etc etc

bald part - I know he is 26. Just too lazy to write PLAYER, word KID is shorter

So that's a reason why he is so solid.

Yeah I really hope guys from Liepāja do not get to know this, as already they believe all the best Latvian hockey players have been the result of training by Liepāja hockey school (and not only Latvian, Vitaly Koval, Torpedo's nr.1 goalie played 1 game there )

Yeah both Ezhov and Galimov from today's SKA-Atlant game have come from VHL. But there shoud be a lot of such players, maybe not yet playing top roles.

sure, I named just a few which I know.... would be great to make research Another VHL goalie - Kováč - will have chance to make KHL next season. At least I believe he will get a try out somewhere

Bottom Line for Lev and Slovan is you need experience in the playoffs. Even if you have a decent regular season as a newcomer, the playoffs are a different animal.

Bottom line is that higher seeded teams are winning lower seeded teams. If Lev/Slovan and CSKA/Dynamo would of finished in flipped positions after regular season and scores in this series still would exactly the same, your post would look better.

The funny thing, when I saw that Sopin scored two goals, I just thought that the KHL online guy had misspelled Soin
