'clearly' I was watching hockey before you were even born. Possibly your parents.
Yes he is. Maybe 4th or 5th, but it isnt outrageous to say hes top 3. He is definitely in the group of doughty, karlsson, weber, chara, etc. Personally, if im starting a team, he might just be the first dman id pick, just because id rather have his style of dman over a karlsson (imo)
Subban and Galchenyuk is a fair price for Giroux. You have to give up quite a huge ransom to get a premier talent like him. Two young 1st-round type roster players, minimum.
Subban or Galchenyuk +
Tinordi or Beaulieu + (or really substitute any prospect/young player you want)
His #'s and Mike Richards #'s aren't that far off. A 75-76pt season followed by 1 really good season, then comes back down to "earth."
I still remember the time people thought he was better than Malkin, lol.
They were the homers saying that crap. I'm from NJ right outside Philly and most of my family members are flyers fans. They would say Giroux is better then Sid and Geno and swore by it. Drove me ******* crazy
Yeah.. I never said that it's LIKELY Giroux gets traded, just said that it is a possibility. After the way philly blew up their team after the 09-10 season ended, a move like this wouldn't be THAT huge of a surprise.
I think it's an impossibility.
trading him mere weeks after appointing him captain would totally humiliate the management, because it would show they have no long-term plan for their team - that's very different to 09/10 season end.
he's plainly important to locker room morale. Right now, that morale is low but they know what G can do when on form, he's known to have a phenomenal work ethic and a hyper-responsible streak (unlike, allegedly, Richards/Carter) and he also seems genuinely popular with the rest. Trade him and he leaves a hole in several areas - not just offense. A lot of what they wanted last time was to draw a line under the hard-partying mindset people felt held the team back. That's not relevant here.
he's worth a lot of $ to the Flyers, even aside from his current play level. His memorabilia fetches double anyone else's, his signing sessions go almost at once, his jerseys fill the Wells Fargo at games. HE fills the Wells Fargo, and IMO it's at least partly because he's the only superstar there in a while who was a Flyers draft pick; he came up through the Phantoms, not via a trade. He feels like one of their own. That's not an added value he can offer a new team.
he's an incredibly talented player who is still only 25 and probably has another decade of NHL play in him - and a big enough name among his peers that they voted him 3rd best player last year, and Lundqvist selected him as his 4th pick at the All Stars - yet his existing contract, with two years to run, doesn't reflect that. They'd struggle to replace him with anyone half as skilled for the same cap hit, and that applies whether you believe he's a superstar (based on last year) or just a seriously talented player (based on the two before last). It's impossible, as long as nothing degenerative/unrehabbable is wrong, that he won't pick up sharply and start playing at a phenomenally high level again. And for $3.5 mill they won't find that elsewhere.
I can't see any way at all they'll trade him. None. None of the other teams can afford to offer what Philly would need to make it worth it, because he's just not worth as much to the other teams as he is the Flyers. They'd all want him, no question - but not as much, and therefore not enough. I think he is a superstar (or at least was, and will be again) but he's not Crosby.

lol @ deeming a sample size of 16 games as coming "back down to earth", off a lockout, where he was injured overseas, while having a revolving door as wingers because of injuries or loss in FA.
lol.
There was a 12 game stretch in 2010-2011 for Malkin where he put up 5 points.
Was he "coming back down to earth" then?
Pens fan....not surprised.

Richards and Carter were both major salary players who had - in the eyes of management - turned the dressing room toxic. Those are not in any way, shape or form traits that are seen in Giroux....so it's not an applicable comparison.

No way I do this....keep Giroux. I like him but no way I give Philly a top end talent on D with a top end talented center for one talented center.
Subban is pure talent and he's only 23
Chucky is only 19 and is making his first step in the NHL.
Also, we Habs are winning.
Also, I would never deal with the Flyers....
Neither team likes this.
subban is pretty good, nothing AMAZING really about him YET
eller isnt half the player giroux is and never will be
and there's no guarantees what that 1st even is at this point
so trading a 25 year old franchise player who almost had 100 points last year at the age of 24 for a question mark draft placement, a good dman and a good forward for one of the BEST players in the game is just ridiculous

I figured it wouldn't be enough, but value wise it is all I would part with
If the Flyers were to trade Giroux, which is as unlikely as any possible trade in the league, they would do so for a young #1 goaltender (Carey Price, Jonathan Quick) or a young #1 defenseman (Alex Pietrangelo, Drew Doughty, Erik Karlsson). Fans would riot if anything less than one of those two players were coming back. He hasn't had the start to the season we would have wanted, but he's still our new captain, the best player on our team, and one of the best players in the league. Most importantly, he's an absolute beast in the playoffs (55 points in 50 games).
The answer is in the question"How often does a player of that quality come by?". Giroux is IMO one of those. Many 1st picks plus a solid established player (top 3 forward or top 2 D) will be the price to pay in today's NHL.
Stop acting like the value is comparable, it's not.
Very similar players... Game changing Offensive wingers but hardly a factor defensively. I would argue Kessel = Kane. If you want so say Kane > Kessel that's your argument but Kane >>> Kessel is so stupid. I wouldn't trade Kessel for kane lol.
I would definitely take Keith over Phaneuf though without hesitation.
