Breaking - Manny Maholtra's agent Paul Krepelka just told CKWX that the Canucks will be announcing soon what's going on with Manny.

Buying out Manny's contract and then giving him a job in the organization would make sense.
What do you guys think is going on with manny?

Sounds like #Canucks will have something to say about Malhotra later today.

I know this discussion has carried over to a few threads, so I figured it should have its own.

Hopefully everything is alright with Manny and his family.

he hasn't been the same player since his eye injury, but he seems to be a great presence in the locker room. my guess is he will get a gig similar to craig conroy in management.

Seems like the speculation is picking up now that Manny might retire.

Educated guess: Manny Malhotra retires as a player and accepts a position within the organization in hockey ops. #canucks

It's beginning to not sound that way (thank God - that was my first worry, too)

Doubt it. I think he's simply retiring.

Yes, I was worried that was the case as well, but I believe they mentioned on the Canucks Lunch yesterday that his absence was not family related. Thank God.

While the article does not state anything definitive, it does not sound like this is family related.

Whatever happens to Manny, I hope it's for the best, for him and the team.

Pretty much what I thought. Still think he's useful for at least this season though.

Let's stick to hockey speculation. How about he goes onto LTIR, so his salary comes off the cap? Then he formally retires in the summer.

If he retires now, during mid season, does his salary count against the cap?

This is sad. Poor Manny.

Every player should just seriously put on a visor out there.

They gave him the option of they putting him on waivers or he retiring

They need the roster space since Kesler and Booth are back shortly and
Schroeder needs to stay

This clears a lot of cap space should it be true. Very interesting.

Wish my first correct prediction ever was a more uplifting story.

Not that it's official, but sure looks like thats the case.

Really feel sad about this.

Before we signed Malhotra, I was a big advocate of picking him up. Love the way he plays the game, and just seems like a heck of a guy.

It's really a shame that his injury hampered his career. Easily in my top 10 favourite Canucks. Wish him the best if this is true.

That makes sense and would back up what Higgins' brother said about him getting waived. Whatever role he takes up in the organization, he'll be great at it. Plus he's incredible in the community.
