Streit & Nabby extension news. Reasoner on the block (Post 58; Streit Playing Injured

Streit extension talks have started.

Wait and see with Vis.

No talks yet with Nabby, same as last year, happened later in season.

Reasoner on block, will be waived if no takers.

So long as the isles don't foolishly give Streit a NTC or NMC, I'm in favor of bringing him back. He can always be moved 1-2 yrs down the road.

Extending Viz makes a ton of sense, same with Nabby.

If Streit is extended it should be a cap friendly deal that makes him more attractive to potential trading partners. Streit's gotta go.

I think Vis has outplayed Streit and I'd like to see Vis extended, but from Vis comments about playing for his hometown team, I expect Vis to return to the KHL.

You got me worried there, but the article says nothing like that. Only:

Snow... is taking a wait-and-see approach on Visnovsky
I think he just doesn't want to play in NHL anymore and the only thing that would change his mind is playing for a Cup contender.

Visnovsky is a goner, he'll be in a Slovan jersey next season. He's looked very good so far though which can only be a good thing. I think he's gone at the trade deadline and we should at least get a 2nd rounder back, he could return a Campoli-esque late first rounder. Matt Donovan will be his replacement.

I hope Nabby is signed for another season. He's still a good NHL goalie and he really seems to like it here. I also think he's good for the locker room because, 'are you a spy? come on.'

I think Boyes is gone at the trade deadline too, he was always a stop gap. He knew the opportunity he had before the season and he is reviving his career and he should thank Johnny and the Isles when he get's a decent contract in the offseason. I think Nino will take his place when he's gone.

I know Streit has become one of the whipping boys, but we still need him for another season or two. We just don't have any sure fire options to replace him next season. He's not a top pairing guy, but he is still a quality #4 and can buy one more year for someone like Reinhart to be groomed as his successor. I think after one more year in Edmonton... he'll be NHL ready.

Mighty Casey has taken Reasoner's job. If they do extend Streit, next season the time has come to make Tavares the captain.

Cizikas' emergence is going to be a boon to this franchise. Reasoner has been terrible other than in the face off circle. Casey's relentlessness (he's like JT in that way) is a very welcome addition to the bottom lines.

I am surprised Staples had no info at all, on Snow kicking the tires on ROR.

Even if Snow discovers the Avs want too much or ROR's contract demands are too high, shouldn't he be doing his due diligence (sp)?

Or is it that Snow thinks Strome or B. Nelson have higher upside and so he's not going to get in the mix for ROR?

It'd be nice to have some idea of Snow's thinking.

Why are you surprised Crew? That's his MO and he seems to take pride in it.

I love what vis brings. He can really move the puck up ice. Something the isles dont have much back there. I would love for him to re sign. Even ifits just for a year. Streit I would re sign too. Not to be top pairing guy, but i think he was 2nd pairing i think he would be better. Use him on PP and on 2nd unit and thats where I think he is at this point. Nabby, I would re sign him too and again to a 1 yr deal. Those 3 guys, add a top dman and add two scoring forwards and we got ourselves a legit team.

I want Vis extended just for the LOLs.

Streit, I want no part of anymore. If he's brought back, I hope it's as a bottom pair guy/PP specialist. He's an acceptable PP QB, but he is no longer a top pair Dman. Take the C off his chest & give it to JT also.

As for Nabby, the guy is a pro and I'd welcome him back. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I'd wish our prospects weren't shining in the AHL. I really thought one of them would be ready to take over full time next year.

You should alter the title because all it said was Snow was taking a wait and see attitude with Visnovsky.

If Streit is extended it should only be for a year and for small money. He has gone downhill.

Nabokov I want back for 2.

Back to Vis... I was wondering if the Isles did manage to make it into the playoffs if we could retain him. He has been nothing short of amazing for us, but reality says he is not coming back, we won't make the playoffs, and he is getting traded. The good news is that he is worth a first round pick right now.

Streit- Brought back or not the C needs to be on JT's sweater from now on. Not only because of the beast mode style of play, but if anyone has noticed, when on the bench and players come back from a shift you see Johnny talking to them. The kid is becoming a more vocal guy and the leader this team needs. Streit's play has went down hill and winning these past two games in no way is a distraction from that.

Nabby- I think this guy deep down has a small regret for not coming to LI sooner. Since being here the guy has seemed overly happy and when his game is on you see the Sharks version of Nabby. Honestly, I have been mad at Nabby recently but these past two games you are seeing a Nabby that needs to be brought back next year.

Viz- I did not expect 1/8th the impact that this guy has had so far. Let me be the first to admit I was wrong and would do whatever it takes to try and retain the guy's services. Hopefully, like Nabaov, after seeing how things are here and realizing it is not bad the guy will resign.

I just had a Nostradamus moment.

Visnovsky continues to impress and he's traded at the deadline for a 1st round pick to a team in the thick of the playoff race. They miss the playoffs. That pick wins the draft lottery. We get Jones/MacKinnon. Bam!

If it happens, remember that I called it.

I knew Visnovsky would be good offensively, but I have been surprised how well he's playing defensively.

Reasoner needs to go.

Too early for extensions IMO. All three of these guys are old. Several teams with cap issues going into next season. I would let the market play itself out.

A very key point which is maybe stronger then ever before with the new CBA.
Snow likes to bargain hunt from waivers, this could be one of those years where alot of solid 3rd-4th line players get shuffled around.

I am not saying Snow should give a detailed report of his trade discussions

I don't think that's what we'd be getting with a one paragraph statement: Snow contacted the Avs about ROR, but found their asking price too high or Snow contacted the Avs about ROR, but found his contract demands too high for a 2nd pro contract.

I would agree with extending all 3. But I'm not sure about Vis wanting one. Nabby probably only has a couple years of productivity so will DiP be bought out and someone promoted? We're getting to that point no? Reaz can commentate for all I care as long as he's done here. Would like to see a call up and promote everyone up. Even if Nino goes 3rd line it's a different 3rd line then last year. He won't be able to just float around.

Vis, IMO, will not stay. But that's OK.

Nabby and Streit will stay. I feel really good about those two.

Isles need to back the money truck up to someone in the off-season and start really taking the next step.

I think you are right about Vis. He is still a very good player despite being an older player. Goaltending is going to be a problem as Nabakov is solid but 39 years old. Poulin and Nilsson have not been good at Bridgeport which makes me think the Isles will have to draft or trade for there goalie of the future.
