Jake Gardiner

I'm not suggesting the leafs trade him, but I'd like to see what you'd give in return.

By himself I don't really know TBH. He's still young and unproven (though he had a good rookie season). As part of a package though, you could probably get a really good player for him.

He's still somewhat unproven and is coming off a pretty serious injury. He'll have to show he's back before you'd get value for him.

He's been playing in the AHL the last couple of weeks to get his conditioning back up since being injured. I think he'll be down until one of the current Leafs defensemen struggles. The thing is all of the Leafs fringe defensemen (i.e., Fraser, Holzer, Kostka) are playing well, so no one really knows when he'll be called up.

He is not being traded.

Probably not until we trade a defenseman or we start losing.

He was down on a conditioning assignment after his concussion, but other players have stepped up, and we now have 8 defensemen not including Gardiner that have proven to be able to play NHL minutes, and can't be sent down without losing them.

Plus we are winning.

He's worth nothing until we see how he rebounds from his injury. Prior to the injury, he was a bonifide top four D-man who was developing into a top two.

Not as much a leaf fans think.

But really there isn't any way to value potential

Elliott + D'agostini + Schmaltz for Gardiner.

Former Jennings winner who set records last year. Former 20 goal scorer. Former first round pick for Gardiner who has a concussion. More than fair.

Down for a conditioning stint in the AHL as he suffered a concussion in December but no one has really played badly for him to justify being removed so I think it's just a waiting game right now.

More than fair? Not exactly considering Elliot was brutal for the last Ontario team he played for and the other two pieces wouldn't seem to be the type of core players the Leafs still need.

How things have changed. This guy was the 2nd coming a couple months ago. Leafs fans considered him untouchable in the Luongo threads and he was a sure-fire 1st pairing dman - maybe even a superstar.

How exactly? He's not getting moved as the Leafs organization values him greatly (rightfully so). I still wouldn't trade him for Luongo or move him unless it was a clear overpayment but I think at that point, you move anyone.

A good backup goaltender, a 2nd/3rd line tweener, and a late first round pick. All for a good defense prospect who had a good rookie year. This is almost a perfect replica of every single leafs thread ever made with the positions being reversed. Just something to keep in mind next time someone makes a proposal you think is bad.

A good backup? Elliott is god awful. Reimer and Scrivens >>.
D'agostini in no world is a 2nd liner. There's a reason why he a healthy scratch almost every game.
Late first round pick who adds nothing to the leafs prospect pool. We have many similar Dmen

Replica of every single leafs thread ever made eh. Congratulations on reading every leafs thread ever made.

Gardiner would not be traded for this package. But I do think he could be a good trading chip. With the emergence of defencemen in organization and Reilly on the way next, Gardiner could be expendable at this point. Rumours are Nonis is going after O'Reilly, I think Gardiner would be a good package for that deal to be centred around. Looks like a win - win for both organizations.

Gardiner

For

O'Reilly

I think there could be a small plus added to Gardiner like Colbourne or Ashton or 2nd, but it is debateable.

Probably another young player. Something similar to the Kassian/Hodgson swap. A young player with similar potential.

Although that is rare, and only happened cause Cody wanted out. If I was a TML fan I would rather package him if the Leafs ever wanted to deal him. Otherwise you would get that or Quantity for quality deals.

It's fair valuewise. It's just quantity for quality.

Good deal actually. I am just not sure if Schmaltz should be given up.
But I guess you have to give to get.

Bad wording. He isn't worth trading for anyone *at the moment*. Too much risk.

Elliott was playing extremely well before Hitchcock came to St. Louis. Maybe all he needs is a competent team in front of him. Both Ottawa and Colorado had terrible teams at the time he was there.

D'agostini is a quality player. He scored 20 goals a couple years ago on a defensive Blues team. The only reason he has been a healthy scratch is because St. Louis is loaded with depth. To be honest, I bet players who play on Toronto would be healthy scratches on St. Louis. Once he goes somewhere he can play and be used in a scoring role, he'll be fine.

Who do you have that's similar to Schmaltz? Just wondering..
