A pair of third-period goals give Amerks 3-2 win at Albany:
Quote:
For the second straight Sunday, the Rochester Americans used two third period goals to rally for a 3-2 victory over the Albany Devils at the Times Union Center. Mark Mancariís team-leading 22nd goal of the season proved to be the game winner as the Amerks improved their record to 41-28-3-1 on the season, placing them in sixth in the Western Conference standings.

Trailing 2-1 entering the third period, the Amerks scored twice in the final 20 minutes to seal the victory. Veteran forward Cody McCormick, who was named the gameís first star, scored to tie the game before assisting on Mancariís game-winner. Goaltender Matt Hackett, who was making just his second start as an Amerk, finished with 36 saves in the game. Rookie Zemgus Girgensons rounded out the scoring for Rochester with a first period power play goal.

Also, expect Dan Catenacci on an ATO soon, as Owen Sound (OHL) were eliminated by Plymouth today.

This is an honest question: after year he's had, why does the organization not think Leggio has any future in the NHL even as a back up?

Nobody ever said that he doesn't. Regier said that he thinks he does have a legitimate shot on WGR the other day.

He is deserving, however the way the ball bounces in the NHL is unless he is a draft choice his percentages are very low. If he was a top 4 pick and played like he has he would have seen games already.

Some teams, including the Sabres only fill their ranks by bringing their picks along first. This is a flawed system as they may miss a diamond in the ruff.

Flynn and Ruhwedel would say otherwise.

And no he wouldn't have seen games already if he was a top draft pick. There has been zero reason to bring up Leggio, ZERO. Thats not due to some bias against non drafted players. Its based on the simple fact that Miller and Enroth are here and neither has been injured. Its truly that simple.

Going forward his chances at a NHL roster spot will likely hinge on getting a break when an injury occurs and taking advantage of it.

It's really this and nothing more. Don't over think or overanalyze.

Completely agree with this. It really is that simple for him. If Miller goes in the offseason (and while skeptical I'd say the chances are pretty fair) his chance gets much, much better as he'll only then have to beat out Hackett and Enroth.

His chances are even better than that. He is an UFA again this summer.

True but I don't see any other teams giving him an NHL shot, be just as good to stick around.

.......so then if he doesn't beat out Enroth and Hackett in training cap he is an AHL goalie.

Nope! I have seen teams give goalies a chance at a couple of games just to see if they can make the grade. This is the time with all of the trade talk and the team out of the playoffs. If he was in their plans they would have given some kind of indication. Now they have Hackett who has leap frogged over him.

I'd say that's a pretty safe bet. Based on his Twitter feed, it sounded like he was saying his goodbyes to Owen Sound:

Want to thank the city of Owen Sound and the whole @AttackOHL organization for the best 2 years of my life. Best group of guys around.

Grigs and Cat, yes. I hope Larsson is in Buffalo next year, no reason he shouldn't be.

Houston gets Josh Harding for their playoff push this weekend and perhaps the first round of the playoffs as well. (Houston is one of the teams Rochester is battling for playoff positioning - in fact the two teams are currently tied for 5th place in the Western Conference. Each team plays a three games in three days this weekend to finish off the regular season. Edge to Rochester there as Houston has to play all three games on the road while Rochester has two of the three games at home.)

I suppose. I'd like to be the organization that lets their prospects take a good long while in the AHL, but it won't always be possible.

I'd highly doubt that. Conditioning stints are generally 2 games.
