The coaching is pathetic. Cassidy is a soft, spineless coach. Rissmiler, one of their best forwards, has been scratched 3 straight games due to the veteran limit. He's so much better than Tarnasky, but the jerk of a coach won't play him because he's on a PTO and they want to be the loyal to the guys they signed. It's pathetic.

Amerks start road trip with 6-1 loss to Marlies:
Quote:
The Rochester Americans fell 6-1 to the Toronto Marlies at Ricoh Coliseum on Saturday as Marlies captain Ryan Hamilton netted a hat trick. The game was the first of a season-long five-game road trip for the Amerks, who moved to 5-2-1-0 in the month of March.

Brad Ross, Greg Scott and Kenny Ryan also scored for the Marlies, while goaltender Drew MacIntyre stopped 30 of 31 shots to earn the victory. Simon Gysbers added two assists for Toronto, which extended its narrow North Division lead over Rochester to four points.

Maxime Legault scored the lone goal for the Amerks, a shorthanded tally that gave him five goals in his last seven games. David Leggio, the AHL leader in wins, saves and minutes played, made 26 saves in the loss. Leading scorer Mark Mancari, who entered the game ranked third in the AHL in points, saw his eight-game point streak come to an end.

I don't know, I'd say they probably want to evaluate him closer in an environment that isn't as bad as the ones he's been stuck in in the WHL.

I don't think he's really worth using a contract slot on.

I agree with jfb392 that Jacobs' ATO is more so a closer look (at pro level) than ELC intent .. never really wowed me in the WHL, but was a solid shootout guy when healthy.

Newst #Amerk Colin Jacobs led Prince George in scoring with 25-28-53 in 66 WHL games. Played previous 3 WHL seasons with Seattle.

Great timing for Colin Jacobs to join the #Amerks. He's a native of Coppell, Texas (NE corner of Dallas metroplex). #ROC in TX all weekend.

Agreed, I see it as a tryout more than anything. If he wows the staff, he might get an elc or ahl contract, if not released.

Amerks rally for 3-2 shootout win over Barons:
Quote:
For the second time in five games, Alex Biega has come up big in the shootout for the Rochester Americans. Facing a 2-0 deficit to the Oklahoma City Barons, the Amerks rallied back with a pair of late goals before completing the comeback with a crucial 3-2 shootout win over their interconference rivals Wednesday night at the Cox Convention Center. The win snaps Rochesterís brief two-game skid and gives the Amerks a three-point separation over the Barons in the Western Conference standings.

Adam Pardy and Phil Varone each scored in regulation for the Amerks, setting the stage for Biegaís dramatic game-winner in the fifth round of the skills competition. Mark Mancari assisted on both goals to move into fourth in scoring in the AHL with a team-high 57 points (19+38), while Amerks goaltender David Leggio made 30 saves through regulation and overtime before denying all five Oklahoma City shooters in the shootout en route to his AHL-leading 32nd win of the season.

Amerks are tied for 5th and are 6-3-1 in their last ten. Not bad considering some of their top players are in Buffalo as is their head coach.

How has ZG looked? Has there been much progress in his game? I haven't watched any Amerks games since early in the season, so any update on his progress would be appreciated.

I think he's been looking better and better throughout the season. He's no offensive power house, but he's strong with the puck along the boards and he loves throwing the body around.

There was a game a couple weeks ago, want to say it was the Heat Friday night game, where Zemgus got the puck in the neutral zone while we were killing a penalty very late in the game. He singlehandedly skated around their entire team, knocking about 30 seconds off the penalty, before getting rid of the puck. In the grand scheme of things it didn't mean much, but it was very impressive and I remember the crowd giving him a little ovation for it. That's the kind of stuff I've noticed out of him.

The Amerks have called a news conference for Thursday morning and are expected to announce they will play in December in Frontier Field, the home of Rochester's minor-league baseball team.

I may need tickets to that.

Glad to hear Zemgus is picking it up after being out so long. Really excited for who this kid could turn into.

The rumor I've heard is that RIT will host Niagara.

No, it's clearly a diversionary tactic to distract us from the crappy Sabres.

Or Pegulabucks wants to throw more money at the problem. He's already paying $77 million in player salaries, paying for two NHL head coaches, three assistants, a fireplace in the lockerroom, the Amerks, a couple NHL salaries in Rochester... But he still has too much money! That **** is burning a hole in his pockets. Let's build an outdoor rink!

They care enough to plan the game, but not enough to realize that people have to WORK on Friday. Takes a lot of the fun out of it with a bunch of people having to rush there to make it on time. Or even better, maybe its a day game. Alumni game should have been Friday, Amerks on Sunday.

Lol, an outdoor game? No not really. They've become almost routine around the NHL and AHL now. The only thing that matter is wins on the ice.

Anyway, they ruined most of the experience with me by having the Amerks game on Friday night. So now either I can't tailgate and will have to rush from work to the game, or I'll have to take a day off. Thanks. All logic points to having it on a Saturday.

That game could have been on a Saturday, and then replayed over and over, live, when it was most convienent for every single Amerk fan and they still would complain. No pleasing a certain portion of that fanbase.
