Loui Eriksson

It seems that Loui Eriksson has broken out as a star in the West and could possibly be one of the greats. What are your opinions?

Probably not, considering he didn't kill penalties this year.

Yeah, because that's not one of his moves. What's your point? That Eriksson is better than Neal? No ****.

You underestimate piqued's disdain for most things Dallas despite being a fan. Terrible coach .... terrible GM .... Terrible players .... seems like most of his favorites get cut, traded, or leave via free agency.

It's a rough go for him. Please, be nice.

Where have I ever said or implied that we have a terrible GM or terrible players?

Well, Eriksson is a better player than Neal. Neal's got a better quick release and is the better sniper, but Eriksson's game is superior in every other aspect, from defense to playmaking to puck battles.

Neal's release is better and he may pick more corners throughout his career, but aside from his monster start to 09-10 when he seemingly picked his spots at will, Loui has actually scored more pure snipe goals, especially off the rush. Neal has Loui beat in tight near the goal but the margin of difference between the two in terms of pure sniping overall isn't as marked as some would suggest.

Saw this on the front page, so just in case you guys didn't see it.

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article...t_place_surge/

Quote:
With their 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks last night, the Dallas Stars grabbed first place in the NHL's Pacific Division. A recent surge by the Stars, including a sweep of a three-game Western Canada road swing that ended last night, has the Stars in a position to win their first division title since the 2005-06 season.

While the play of several players has contributed to the Stars current run, the play of left winger Loui Eriksson has been a prime factor in driving the offensive success that the team has experienced of late.

Eriksson has been a steady performer for the Stars for most of the season. But he has elevated his play of late, tallying 11 points in his team's last seven games. Included in that point total is five goals and six assists, with one goal coming on the power play and another shorthanded. Eriksson is a +9 in those seven games.

Currently, Eriksson's season point totals include 23 goals and 38 assists for 61 points in 67 games. If the Gothenburg, Sweden native continues on his current scoring pace, he has a good chance of topping his previous best season point total of 73 points, set during the 2010-11 season.

Perhaps the best indicator of Eriksson's value to the Stars' current run of success is the fact that he has been chosen as a star of the game in four of the seven games that constitute his recent point surge. Three of those star selections were Second Star awards, with the other being a Third Star selection.

To be sure, Eriksson hasn't been the lone reason for his team's improved playoff prospects. Veteran center Mike Ribeiro is playing some of his best hockey in the 2011-12 season as of late, while goaltender Kari Lehtonen has been providing the kind of goaltending that would be expected from a former second overall NHL Draft selection.

But, as has been the case for the past three seasons, Eriksson has been a model of consistency for the Stars. Since the 2008-09 season, Eriksson has played in 310 of the Stars' 313 games played during that period. In those 310 games, he has totaled 268 points while has posting a +38 rating.

At just 26 years of age, Eriksson is just entering his prime years as an NHL player. And, while his name may never be mentioned along with the superstars of the game, there isn't a team that wouldn't want the talented Swede in their lineup on a nightly basis.

I love Loui, and he has scored some very pretty goals, but I think Neal is by far the better pure sniper personally. Sure, playing with Malkin means he'll get more chances at it than Loui ever has, but he's got an absolutely amazing wrister. I think Loui's massive amount of goals come from his great hockey sense. He knows where to be and he's got the patience and presence of mind to do something about it. But to be perfectly fair if he buried even 5 or 10 percent more chances than he does now he'd be a 30 goal scorer year in and year out.

I'd argue we got a guy with an even better shot in Ryder, though. He's only 2 goals behind him, and doing it without an elite level center like Malkin.

BTW, Neal only has 3 goals in his last 17 games. Is he finally starting to suffer from his annual mid-season slump?

Oh wow.

Didn't even realize. It's only a James Neal slump if it lasts well into the playoffs, otherwise it's probably just a regular slump.

8 games without a goal, longest so far, but he's still producing points. 12 assists in those 17 games. I'm guessing Malkin's started to take over the scoring aspect of that line.

You guys are crazy to even consider trading Loui. He's been our best all around player ever since he joined us, he's having his first down year. Only way we should consider moving him is if he continues to play like this halfway through next year.
