And no I'm not nitpicking you, just providing some facts.
I have been to every home sarnia game ..all sar/ windsor games....not nitpicking either

This link does not show the incident earlier in the game that led to the big event...Dave McQueen Sar/coach knew what Cappy doesn't ...By the way since your a fact guy...check how well JT line did on ice playing against Stamkos/Martin line.

Can Matt Martin become a Milan Lucic type player?

I always thought Matty Martin would just be a 3rd/4th liner, but he is showing that he can be a 2nd liner imo. Maybe I'm overreacting after this game, but I was going to say this when the Isles played Boston last week.

Please search for threads before making new ones.

A Poor mans Lucic perhaps. But not on the same level. Milan is probably the best power forward in the NHL. Martin definitely has a lot more skill than his line/role implies though. I have no doubt he could be a consistent 15 goal scorer in the NHL.

But he's going to need to play with better players to get there. It might be a bit down the road but if we could ever get that #2 center, then I'd be very happy with Martin playing with Nielsen and Grabner, or maybe one of Kabanov, Nelson, Lee. though that's at least 2 years away.

That`s my guess, maybe if real lucky he can turn out offensively like Clarkson

All that being said I do think he should be playing on the top 3 lines with more offensive players(maybe try Ullstrom or Grabner on the RW with Cizikas). Also I would play him with Tavares and Moulson(by the late 2nd or early 3rd) if the Islanders are having one of those games it seems like the other team is just putting us in a huge defensive trap(ie maybe he can open room for them)

If he can put on an inch, 20 pounds of muscle w/o losing a step, and improve his hands? Sure.

Cheers,

I think Stan had a good thought that Prust could be Martin's upside. That would be great obviously.

Whatever happens, he's needed on this team and hope he stays and develops with us. He's shown maturity this year, knowing when to fight and when not to, showing restraint (like in the Sen's game) and drawing penalties against the opposition.

Love the pinball machine that is #17.

Just curious, why is it such a big deal?

Because we don't want the forums looking like the espn or yahoo boards with a billion different threads all on the same subject.

Plus it's easier to moderate.

Today was probably hte most complete game I have seen Martin play as an Islander. I hope he can bring some consistency and keep it up.

Kid has hands, but hes been snakebitten all year. Hopefully that PPG will get him going. Also, he needs to get smarter in the O-zone, if he can cut out his offensive zone penalties he could be a real asset

After looking at Prust's stats just now, I retract my statement that Stan had a good thought.

Watching Prust play, he looks like a player you want on your team - but not that production for that contract (though I do think the Rangers miss him).

So, I think there's more of an upside to MM's game. Would love to see him earn the 2nd line in the near future. Carry on.

In ten years no one will remember Prust.

Martin will be remembered. He is better than Prust.

MM and camper touched on it earlier.... Clarkson is the prototype. Lucic is too 'pie-in-the-sky' and frankly unrealistic, and Prust is an insult.

Glad Martin got 15 minutes tonight, should be getting at leas that every night. Hopefully someone can introduce Capuano to Casey Cizikas soon. 11 minutes? Cappy can't get terminated fast enough (I won't even go into Ullstrom)

He needs to shoot for Clarkson. That's his ceiling.

Don't discount heart, work ethic and motivation. Martin is not a finished product. Also see how his production increased in the OHL. This is a guy who improves himself.

If Matt Martin could work on his shot he could be a lot better. He's not very accurate at times. His skating has improved greatly. I love him with Cizikas and McDonald though. I know its technically the 4th line but they are earning a lot of minutes and playing very well. Its not like putting Martin with the Boultons and Gillies of the world.

He needs a try on the JT line. It would be nice for someone other than #91 doing the dirty work.

He had a great game today, but he doesn't have 2nd line potential. I'd like to see him be a 12-15 goal scoring, 3rd line LW. Something like a Steve Ott, or a Brandon Dubinsky that isn't a little *****.

He's relied upon too heavily for PKing to put him on the 1st line. He's fine where he is. Toss him on the 2nd PP unit every once in a while if you wanna get him some offensive opportunities.
