Does Heater still have a NMC or is that gone now?

He has a modified NMC.

Each year, he has to turn in a list of teams that he doesn't want to go to during a specific window of time.

I believe the window of time is 5 days between July 1st and July 5th.

Otherwise, it is a full NMC.

Teams like the Islanders/Coyotes need players like him to hit the floor. Still, I don't see him moving just yet.
I also don't see Heatley waiving his NTC to go to the Islanders.

Cullen's recent numbers are flat out unsustainable (Seto's too). In the last 20 games, Cullen's had 13 assists, which averages to 0.65/Assists Per Game (53 assists prorated over 82 games). His career average before 2012-13 is 0.33/APG (27 assists prorated over 82 games). I think most of us know that a drop is coming.

That said, it's nothing against him. He's a second-line forward, and isn't expected to consistently carry a team; an occasional hot streak is what's expected. He's more than done his part this season.

I think Minnesota might have to accept losing him for nothing in the offseason. He's too valuable right now on a team headed for the playoffs, but may be too expensive to keep with the reduced salary cap next season. If the Wild manages to rid themselves of Heatley, Gilbert, or Mitchell's contract, then I might suggest a similar, one-year deal for Cullen, but I imagine that he'd want multiple years.

Have not read all of the Cullen stuff posted here but I think the shortened season definitely benefits him. As others have mentioned, he wears down over a regular 82 game season.

With that said, I am not opposed to him coming back for one more year. Let him keep the 2nd line spot or have MiG/Larsson earn it.

I could see one year at $2.5m, two years averaging $2m or less...can't see him getting $3m+ from us again. That would be surprising.

I think a two-year deal would be something the Wild really regret that second year. Age will catch up to him, especially with 82+ game seasons.

It's really hard for me to imagine Cullen playing anywhere else before he retires. There's no doubt he would like to retire here(now that we are pushing for playoffs), I don't think money is a major factor to him so I think he comes back for a reasonable amount.

he had an exclusion list of 10 (?) teams he wouldn't go to. sort of a NTC but not really.

I agree on your contract amounts but I don't think they'd necessarily regret the second year. Cully could still be useful on the third line, and fewer minutes would somewhat mitigate the deterioration in speed the grind is going to cause otherwise .

i like heatr but if (imo / pure speculation) hes not happy being demoted to the 3rd line & if PHX is a team he would go 2 i'd trade him for vrbata. (i've always liked vrbata's game/speed). heatr would help phx w cap floor. im not sure if vrbata is 100% healthy.

I hope we sign some top 4, veteran Dman in the offseason. Someone like Lydman.
Any chance we will waive Prosser? I see no use for him..

And why would Phoenix downgrade their offense when they're already above the cap floor?

I don't think the Wild have much use for him either beyond this season.

I don't see the point of signing a UFA Dman who has to learn a new system. Focus on re-signing the current Dman group, including Gilbert.

Not to mention we can't really afford any more overpriced UFA contracts.

Heater isn't going to be traded. I don't think anyone is wiling to risk a 7.5 caphit next year on a guy who in the eyes of many GM's can't perform on the Wild. How would he expect to perform on theres? There is still a stigma that we aren't a consistent team.

I'd say we don't have a solid #4 d-man. Spurgeon? Good offensively, bad defensively. Prosser? No. Stoner? Bottom pairing d-man. Falk? No.
The jury is still out on Clark.

Sign an UFA d-man for 1 year is my opinion.

Where does this legit top-4 defenseman, who's willing to sign a one-year contract at a reasonable price, come from?

I personally still believe in Scandella and think he'll be able to take that #4 slot come next season.

We'll have to see the free agent market come summer. I wouldn't have any problem with, for example, Lydman.

If Scandella is ready, then great, problem solved.

As much as I like Heatley personally (from afar, of course) and think he'd probably be a cool guy to have a beer with...I'm thinking this is it for him with the Wild and he'll be bought out after this season.

He is just too freakin slow. He's even holding back the 3rd line, IMO. His +/- is the worst on the team. A guy like Larsson should be taking over his spot on the 3rd line next season.

Falk and Scandella will be fine for that #4 role. Falk has been playing really well the last 15 games. Stoner looks so much better on the bottom pairing with Spurgeon.

I'd still like to see a bit more consistency from Falk before I'm sold on him. he played a poor game against the Sharks IMO but responded well last night. He seems to be at his best when he's using his (surprising) speed to carry the puck through the offensive zone. Still needs to work on using his size to be more physical though.

Falk had a "Brodin play" last night that was amazing. Poke check, 2 strides, pass to PMB at the other blueline. He has all the physical tools to be a top 4 guy, it's just a matter of him making good decisions on a consistent basis.

And he is huge...when he wants to be physical, he crushes guys. I'm sure he's told not to get out of position by going for the big hit (in Yeo's system) but he has been more forceful the last couple weeks or so.
