For some reason the whole time I've been hearing about a Clowe trade it sounded like something the Wild would do. Top six guy with some grit to his game that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

Leading contenders for Clowe, IMO, would be PHI or MIN but it's fluid situation. NYR, VAN, MTL also in mix. 50-50 it happens today. #tsn

Interesting, I wonder what we would have to give up.

Clowe is fine with me as long as the price isn't ridiculous

Heatley?????

Seriously though...it would need to be a position player + heading back to SJ...

This is interesting as this is coming from Bob McKenzie who is pretty credible.

PMB for Clowe if Fletcher pulled that off that would be amazing. Also not sure if SJS wants Heater back

Other three teams - PHI, MIN, VAN - capable of doing an extension for Clowe, if so inclined. SJ and MIN do seem to like trading, don't they?

An extension too.. If he can go back to Old Clowe, I'd be ok with that.

Considering Couturier is a name that's been in discussion for Clowe, I sure as hell hope the Wild aren't in on this...

Isn't that the truth? Lol. I don't want to give up many young prospects, but I'd be okay with trading a pick. I don't know a whole ton about Clowe other than he's a big body to play in the top 6?

I would guess maybe Phillips? Or another prospect? Not an A-lister though. MAYBE Bouchard.

Why would Clowe want to go to Philly? They are terrible.

I think he'd be a good fit. He's a big guy who can play physical, he'll play that forechecking game like Yeo wants, but he's got skill and playmaking ability. Maybe not so much this year, but he's been a 50-60 point guy the last several years.

Zach Phillips, Bouchard and 2nd round pick for Clowe.

Top 6....not too bad.

Parise - Koivu - Coyle
Clowe - Cullen - Setoguchi

Plus, Clowe is a RH shot which could help on the PP.

Why would the Wild go after Clowe? They need defensemen not forwards. Go after Regehr etc. and make room for Granlund in the process.

From The Hockey News:

Assets: Plays a solid up-and-down game, and is a throwback winger who loves to check and do the dirty work. Strong on the puck, he's versatile enough to line up on either wing. Is a good scorer in close and an excellent scrapper, too.

Flaws: Can be a bit too streaky in the goal-scoring department. As he has become a bigger scoring threat, he has become a little less physical, too. Also, he is not an elegant skater; he's somewhat of a plodder, in fact.

Career Potential: Solid power forward.

I think they'd chase him because Butch and Heatley just don't work well with Yeo's system. Heater is just terribly slow and can't really get in on the forecheck, Butch is a soft guy who can set things up and is on a nice streak now but hasn't worked out throughout the season.

Think about it; we had this super skilled guy in Granlund who couldn't stick because he was too soft and slow to play now, so we have Coyle up on the top line. A rookie who isn't much of a scorer is playing top line minutes because guys who should be way more skilled can't get the job done.

I just hope they press the eject button before prices get stupid. I'd hate to give up one of Coyle, Larsson, Dumba, or Zucker. They can have a B-lister like Phillips, Scandella, Bulmer, etc.

Also we need to keep re-building the 2010-11 San Jose Sharks.

Yikes, I'm post-spamming here.

If you look at Butch and Clowe, this could be one of those "hockey trades" that Fletcher likes to do. Clowe is at $3.6m on an expiring deal headed for UFA. Bouchard is at $4.0m on an expiring deal headed for UFA. Both are left-handed left wingers. Butch is the skilled playmaker, Clowe is the gritty power forward.

Butch for Clowe and swapping mid-picks (like our 3rd or 4th for their 4th or 5th) makes sense to me.

IF that's what they're doing.

You sure about that? Hockeydb.com has Clowe listed as a right-handed shot.

I like Clowe but really dont see where he fits.

I dont see a big enough upgrade over Coyle to warrant messing with what has been pretty good development so far.

I dont see any reason to change the 2nd line right now, and definitely dont see a reason to add a slow power forward type to that line. Not to mention you already have a guy in Houston who is a great fit on this line.

Clowe would probably be a better fit on the 3rd line than Heatley is, but what are you gonna do with Heatley? Plus, I wouldnt be very interested in paying deadline prices to slightly upgrade the 3rd line.

I'd very much prefer a Bouchard for Clowe type of trade with maybe us adding a pick or two. It makes a lot of sense for us, but I'm not sure how much it works for the Sharks.

I have faith in whatever Fletcher does at the deadline. The guy is good at his job.

I'd LOVE to knock Coyle off that top line spot, but
