We used to win 15 games a year that weren't deserved during the Cujo, Belfour era. Like saying the pitcher doesn't count in baseball.

Nice little pick-up.
Agreed, I thought he would be sitting most nights even with our current injuries. He has been much better than I expected.

Yeah, it was an interesting move by the team under Carlyle. He said something in a recent interview that might be telling. Stuff along the lines of as the season progresses and the games take on more importance, the games will be harder and harder...more of a "mans" game and this will intensify to another level in the playoffs. Moves like the McLaren pickup fit right into the mindset of preparing for those games. Another observation is his take no prisoner approach in handling Kardri, arguably one of his early Toronto coaching success stories. You sense that he is just not coaching to develop this team and to win games, but to get them ready for a "war" in the playoffs. The comfort level is that he's done this before and has been successful.....

Leafs are top 10 in both goals for and goals against. But 20th or worse in pp and PK. Fix those and we are looking pretty damned good.

Even though the percentages haven't caught up yet, mainly because we haven't been taking as many penalties, I feel so much safer on the PK this year. Last year, at least at the end, it seemed like a penalty was an automatic goal against.

We are 11th in the league in PPGA.

Tied for 14th in PPGF for the record as well.

We finally have the right personnel for the PK. Dedicated PKers like Jay McClemment, Korbinian Holzer, and Mark Fraser certainly helps. All of those guys know how to properly clear the zone.

Not to mention the positioning and effectiveness of players like Nik Kulemin, Leo Komarov and Tyler Bozak.

Although I still think that Dion Phaneuf is pretty useless on the PK. He's out of position all the time and consistently loses his assignments, particularly down low.

Scrivens was only 3rd star of the game (deserved 1st) but he is the 2nd star in the whole NHL? Please explain that to me?

Is the NHL usually based on the week?

Thinks so, not sure.

They seem to have it based on the games played this weekend. Tavares is first star with 3 goals and 1 assist. Scrivens 2nd with 34 saves for 100%.

I love Tavares, always have since he played in junior, when I said he was a must to take on the Olympics 2 weeks ago, I meant it. Don't care if it's over Crosby, Getzlaf, or Stamkos. He's a must take.

Of those three you mentioned, he's definitely better than Ryan Getzlaf.

He's a shoe-in to make the team, IMO.
