Reason: Edmonton gains a big bodied power forward who can score. he can also play in the top six if any injuries happen or to protect the kids a bit. Ottawa gains a struggling top 4 d-man who has become irrelevant in edmonton with klefbom, musil, marincin ect in the pipeline. Also helps the sens with the loss of Karlsson.
I feel Latendress has more value than Whitney and the 2nd for 3rd would balance the difference. just my opinion. If Whitney's stock rises before the trade deadline then drop the picks and send a b rated prospect to edm as well.

Ottawa has very little playoff hopes at this point. Why give up anything for an upcoming UFA that will likely resign elsewhere?
I still don't see Ottawa as sellers. They just have terrible luck this year.
And Whitney for a 3rd would pretty much do it from any team seeing as how Fistric is probably worth more at this point.
I think it makes sense for both teams . Latendress would fit well in our bottom six imo.
And from the Ottawa side, I think it's easier for us to fill our forwards with AHL call ups rather than our D. I'd rather have Zibby, Da Costa being a part of the Top 6 than Benoit, Lundin, Borowiecki, Gryba in the Top 4.
I understand Latendress has concussion issues, rather keep Whitney then get a inconsistent player that is dealing with a concussion.
I'm pretty sure Latendresse is dealing with neck problems currently, unrelated to past concussion problems. I could be wrong since I often forget he's on our roster at all...
How sad is it that the 2nd round pick is probably the most valuable piece in this deal? Pass from Edmonton, but only because of the pick, ha ha.
yeah, honestly i can see where OP is coming from but judging by value of picks i dont think Oilers would be tossing in a 2nd or 3rd rd pick. maybe 5th or 7th. seriously these are valuable pieces to a good scouting team.
straight up id take it. To me a dman is more valuable than a bottom 6 f so the oil would likely hang on and try to get Whit to get out of his funk. Me thinks he spent too much time ripping on Bettman and the owners instead of practicing during the lockout. He should learn to exercise his yap less and body more.
One thing not mentioned here is that Lats signed here to be close to his family. Even though he's UFA after this year, it would a bit of a classless move to trade him to the other side of the country, and Ottawa is known to be a classy organization (see : trading Fisher where he wanted to go for less than we could have gotten if we shopped him).
