Alzner to St. Louis

What would it take assuming the Caps don't improve? Or would he be unavailable regardless of how the team performs?

It would take a huge overpayment, not worth it.

Tarasenko would be sweet.

He's one of those players you'd be crazy to trade.

Both of your kidneys...

He isn't getting dealt. No way. I would say that he, Carlson, and Green would all probably be off limits. Your stuck with Hamrlik or Poti....Don't want either.

Even if Washington chooses to dump veterans and rebuild, they'd rebuild with Alzner. No way do they move that guy.

That said...the usual combination of trade-chips would be available from STL if he were available: Jaden Schwartz, Ty Rattie, Dmitrij Jaskin, 2013/14 draft picks (any round), any other non-roster prospect.

If the Caps do try to retool for next year, Alzner is one of the few players that is untouchable. I would move any defenseman not named Alzner.

Green and Carlson would still cost a lot though.

As they should.

No reason for the Caps to trade a young dman - you build around them, not trade them. They may be down as a team this year, that doesn't mean you scrap it. Would be like trading Pie after his first season and the Blues not making the playoffs.

The asking price for Carlson or Alzner would be significant

If we were trading him, for sake of the thread, the return would definitely have to include Tarasenko or Schwartz

Cole + Tarasenko, something like that.

To say we're in no rush to trade him would be an understatement. St. Louis is much better off asking for Staal.

Tarasenko + D'Agostini. Or just Tarasenko.

Tarasenko we will not deal. What about a package revolving around Schwartz? What do you recommend?

Perhaps, Schwartz, Rattie, and a 1st? or Schwartz, Cole, and Ottawa's 2nd?

lol. Whatever Washington would want for Alzner, the Blues (in this case, their fans) would want no part of. There's really no use in continuing this discussion...there's no conceivable trade between these clubs for Alzner that both sides would be happy with and agree upon.

OK, so you don't want to get a top-10 (maybe even top-5) defensive d-man in the league. Gotcha, thanks.

I'd love to have Alzner...what I'm saying is Washington wouldn't give him up for anything STL would be willing to give.

its funny. caps fans having alzner and then carlson and now kundratek and orlov arrive think of green as if he's an aging veteran instead of the young player he actually is

I do. Pietro deserves no less of a partner and someone logging 25 minutes a game that can float between him and Shatty, so they can do their thing. Jackman being option #2. What would it take in a deal? Another Caps poster mentioned a deal centered around Schwartz... What do you want to rebuild with? Pieces we have in our possession you may be interested in Lehtera, Rattie, Schmaltz, Hakanpaa, Edmundson, etc. We are making a playoff run, but Cole could be had D'Agostini, Russell, 1st, 2-2nds in this upcoming draft...
